Ok i finally got my 99 GA regesterd and on the road, since its been raining all day i didnt have a chance to do a full check of the car, but none the less i had places to go, on my way to my inlaws the oil light flashed and the car stalled.. i restarted it and it fired up rough, when i was able to go at the light i pulled in to the driveway and it stalled again, when the rpm's go up it makes a horrible knocking sound, i got it into the garage and checked, no oil, i added 4Quarts and let it sit for a few, i fired it up and it was still rough, but sounded better, however when i turned the wheel, the car stalled again, started it up and backed it out, when i reved it, same think horrible clacking, is the engine toast?

Ouch yea that engine is toast obviously you are leaking a large amount of oil somewhere and then probably spun a bearing from having no oil.

yea you will probably make the engine worse and will probably get stuck somewhere. where do you live I'll see if there are any cheap engines in your area.

You can bring it to a mechanic so someone can check it for sure since I'm working only with what your telling me but rod knock is never good which is what it sounds like your describing.

yeha im going to, i mean i never had anissue besides the trans in my tbird, when i got my mazda i blew 2 engines both under coverd since i had a heavy foot from having a v8 and thats kinds like waht it sounds like a bearing, but when it idols it sounds fine, where in my mazda it was like a powerstroke v8. when i had the mazda i used a bottle of lucas oil stabliizer to make it thicker and it made it quiet for a while, i was able to drive for a while with it till it got anoying and i took it in. the other bonus is my dad knows how to rebuild engines, expecially chevys, so maybe he can help so i dont have to go and buy a new car.

Rebuilding the Quad / Twin Cam is a whole new adventure don't expect it to be a quick job a lot of mechanics refuse to work on them . I say go for it strip it down and rebuild it will be a learning experience

lol true, well i mean its the bottom end that needs the work, i know when mazda rebuilt my old engine DOHC 3.0L VVT they just replaced the faulted parts, which was the bearings and such down there, and it ran great till i blew it again lol, thans for the info, i hope it can be done, otherwise im out of a car

At first sign of the oil light, if you would have shut if off, it would probably be okay.
Do not run it anymore. Maybe there isn't much damage. You may get away with just dropping the oil pan and doing the bearings.

on my way to my inlaws the oil light flashed and the car stalled.. i restarted it
That was your first mistake. Not to jump down your throat, but when the red oil light comes on ,that means shut down.
when i reved it, same think horrible clacking, is the engine toast?
?
Yes, regrettably.Given the possibility of collateral damage besides shot bearings, it would be cheaper to find and install a new motor.
If you tear down the old one , either yourself or at a shop, youre likely to spend an assload of time and labor tearing down the motor, only to find something else severly damaged.
Sorry to see that your first day with the GA ends with a dead motor. My prayers will be with you.
