Njection (http://njection.com) is a website for guys like us. In addition to their forums and picture resources, they have compiled a database of more than 50,000 speed traps worldwide -- areas with high radar use and speed cameras -- that works with Microsoft Live Maps. Njection is teaming up with Garmin, a leading manufacturer of GPS, to allow drivers to download and display their speed trap database information on portable navigation units.
The Speed Trap-enhanced Garmin portable GPS units will be a great companion on a road trip, long commute, or while traveling in unfamilar areas. However, as sophisticated as the technology is getting, GPS still won't find your lost keys.

interesting. It looks like there might be a lawsuit towards garmin for informing where the popo sit. :)

Nope. Legal in the US (With the notable exception of Virginia of course). The concept is already in use in areas with red light cameras.

eh, lame. why waste your time with where there will possibly be speed traps, you'll end up doing the speed limit the entire time. get a v1

Actually the cops encourage this because it makes people slow down.
It was on the news not too long ago.

Disagree citing last month's incident... already have both a Garmin GPS and V1. The V1 didn't save me (instant-on radar FTL) but a GPS alert probably would have reminding me that the Maple Shade locals do sit in the Carrabba's lot at night sometimes. Both GPS w/ trap database + competent radar detector would be a winning combo. Too bad this feature didn't come earlier... would have saved me $414.
Edit: Just submitted that location to their website DB. :D

In NJ they always sit everywhere. But for sake of thread context, this is a great idea if implemented properly.

Exactly.. so many spots, GPS will alert you to a ridiculous amount of them.. there's nothing you can do about instant on, if you slow down for each spot worried about instant on, you'll end up always doing the speed limit making both the v1 and knowing police spots useless. That site above doesn't even come close to listing the amount of spots I run into on 295 and the turnpike each day, not sure how accurate it is in other areas

this is a "known-area-where-cops-sit" speed traps, or is it where they always have those things set up, or cameras permanently mounted?

"Everywhere" meaning that's why this feature is a good idea especially in NJ... In PA you can usually ignore radar noise when on local roads, cause only state police have radar. Someone else that doesn't live 1000 feet away from that spot won't have the benefit of knowing in advance, radar detection has proved useless, therefore this is a good idea.
Yea, the site lacks a ton of hiding spots including the 2 pillar spots I see on 295. Some of the rural crap in central PA is dead on tho. I bet user submission would go way up if suddenly all that info became available in your car. Alerts annoying? Turn it off and the GPS functions as it used to. European GPS units have this... it is a popular feature there.
