Can someone explain what this is?

an absolute piece of shit that will throw your air/fuel ratio off. you can buy one of these resistors are your local radio shack if you wanted.

Buy one and do what with it? I think my car is already running lean due to the free flow exhaust and all the extra air...

you are supposed to wire it up to the IAT sensor i do believe. It makes the computer think that the IAT sensor is reading colder air than it really is by changing the resistance seen coming from the sensor. basically I was saying don't waste your money unless you are bored and want to screw your timing and everything up.

That won't make it run 'lean'. Your car knows how much air is entering the motor and will adjust accordingly.
The resistor is wired inline of the intake air tempature sensor and changes the output single and makes the car think it's about 36 degrees outside. This makes the computer think that it needs to add more fuel to the mixture to balance out the ratio for the added oxygen.
Not only will this make your MPG go down, but you'll end up replacing things like your spark plugs, O2 sensor and cat sooner than you should.

Oh hell not this thing again....
I wish we could just herd all of the morons who try to scam people with this crap into a small room and blow the damned thing up.
