It has been a while since i have contributed to the Forum. I have been so busy with work and my new project.

So here are some pics of what i have been up to. More to come soon, these were just takin with my phone today. I will bring the digital camera to the shop tomorrow.

As some of you might remember I have went through 3 Transmissions now on the GA and well I decided to retire the old girl. Well not all of her.

My 1987 Fiero GT is getting a 3400. I already have my 7730 ECM to run it and the ship is on its way to be burnt. Stage 2+ Clutch & Aluuminum Flywheel on its way from spec.com, and new fel-pro gaskets since my LIM is leaking.

So i will have a 3400 Fiero with a 5-speed. Its going to be fun. I also plan on putting in a cam and doing the 3500 top end swap this winter.

Sounds pretty sweet. It still saddens me that the only mid-engine sports car GM produced came with a wimpy (albeit reliable) 4 cylinder and a weak v6. That should be quite an improvement; keep us posted!

Yes i will be parting out the GA. So if you want something PM me a price. I will let everything go pretty cheap. But expect to wait a couple weeks, really busy right now with work and the project. So i wont get around to shipping everything out right away.

I love it. Had one when i was 16 but had to get rid of it to pay some bills off. Found this one and its in pretty good condition. So I will be holding on to her for a while.

what 5 speed trans you running with it??

I like to call the Feiro "GM's Mid-engine mistake". The car had so much more potential but it lacked power and aftermarket parts.

Probably something off of a older J-body or Beretta.

cool, i didnt know that old fiero trans would fit up to the 3.4,

How the hell did you get that thing out with the trans mounts still attached? (nice crane BTW, i have the same one) I had one heck of a time ripping the engine and trans out together. Ive come to the conclusion that its easier to take the engine out first, then take out the trans....

Have fun with the swap, bolting the Getrag to the motor is cake. Its going to be real nice for you since the trany bolts into the Fiero....thay dont bolt up to a GA at all. One weekend sometime soon, my boss is going to let me have access to the shop for the weekend so I can weld up my trans mounts. Let us know hopw the install goes, maybe I can learn something from that might help me along the way...

That should be a first. 3400 in a Fiero. I've seen V8's and 3800 SC engines in them already.

Got the tranny unbolted from the 3400, it actually wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. I believe my clutch and flywheel came in today via ups, but i wasnt home. So i will have to wait till tomorow to find out.

Aslo built a lower engine mount using the stock 2.8 mount with a little cutting as seen below. Now comes the wiring.

Damn, that should have a nice kick in the seat when your done.

I gotta admit I am kinda jealous. I can't even get my Fiero running with its stock 4-cyl. Eventually though I'd like to swap in a turbocharged Quad4.

Very nice, but as gt00 said, please, please put something under that car when under it like that. Maybe get two transmission jacks to put under the rear as a fail safe. I know it's a little car but having it fall on you it'll feel like a cement truck.

Looks like a fun little project. Cool stuff.

Couple off topic things:

1) Badger Daylighting. You work for em? I've seen their trucks out here as well.

2) I have the same Dragon hat as you but mine's not as dirty lol.

Yes i work for Badger. I operate, been with them for about 8 months. But I have been hydrovacing for over 4 years now. Waiting for my credit to get better to buy a hydrovac. $600,000 aint easy to get I guess. lol.

Ya its my work hat, so it gets a little dirty.

Small update. Still waiting on parts, getting a little frustrated now. But just doing some clean up and getting stuff pretty.

I finally get to put the engine back together. Went and picked up a timing cover gasket set so i can swap the 2.8L timing cover onto the 3400. Also my top end kit came in today. I got the steel Fel-Pro LIM gaskets this time, was already on my second set of plastics.

UPDATE:

I have the 3400 back together and mounted on the trans. and cradle. 90% of my wiring is done, once i finish it up. Which should be tomorrow i will be putting the cradle back into the car and will be running my fuel and coolant lines. Not much left to go now should be up and running early next week. I will take some pictures of everything tomorrow.

BIG UPDATE:

Anyone curious to see what a 3400 looks like in a Fiero?

Well here you go, the wiring is a bit of a mess right now i have to tidy it up and run the harness into the cab. I am waiting on my chip & connectors for my ECM along with a passenger side axle, I was sent the wrong one. Then all I have left to do is run my fuel, coolant lines and brake booster line.

The Fiero is 2600lbs with the 2.8, the 3400 is lighter then the iron 2.8 & the GA is about 3100lbs IIRC.

Well since i have very limited space for exhaust, About 2.5-3 feet per side actually. I am going to split the exhaust right after the manifold and run two 2.25" pipes to either side with 9" Flo~Pro glass packs and hopefully a set of resinator tips if they will fit.
