In the picture below, you can see where it looks like the wheel has corroded. Maybe the clearcoat has just been worn off by an improper type wheel weight. What I want to know is how to fix this, if it can be fixed at all. Is it a pain to do it and make it look right? Or am I better off just buying new/used ones without this problem?

Thanks,
Brian

The same thing happened to the wheels on my 85 GA. There was a guy in Cleveland that had a wheel repair shop. He did mine and they were like new. You may want to check in your area for a shop that does wheels.

How much did he charge you?

I couldn't tell you.....that was about 12 years ago. I did it right before I sold the car. I do know he did all 4 wheels and he had to do the whole wheel, not just touch up the bad places.

That corrosion is due to the chemical reaction of stell against aluminum. Make sure they use vinyl coated weights the next time you get your wheels balanced. You can sand it out yourself, if you know what you're doing & then reclear the whole rim. There are profesional repair shops out there that can restore it for you as well.
