Picked up this 94 GA Quad4SOHC in near mint condition just a week ago and only has 53,000 miles on it. I'm reading alot concerning the difficulties with this engine and much of the trouble seems to lie around the coolant. Is this a safe operating temperature when its only 45 degrees outside. Will I have problems this summer in this oppressive Il heat?

The engine should run around 180-195 most of the time. Maybe even touching 200 at times.

Anyways, get a garage or something to gauge how hot your engine is getting... the coolant gauges in the Grand Ams are notoriously inaccurate.

The 94-95 2.3's run at 190-195 F most of the time. The OEM thermostat is 180 F.

Depends, really. As long as the car seems to be operating normally and shows some regularity, I wouldn't worry (or so I was told). Mine runs around 160 degrees, but has never gone past 220.
