OK so when I first got my aftermarket HU (pioneer deh p390mp) back in Jan 06....my factory tweeters blowed. So I jus brought some Rockford T1 Tweeters off of ebay for $50.So what i was gonna do is take the connector that was used for the factory tweeters.Connect it to the T1 tweeters and plug them up jus like the factory.Ok easy...The auction didn't come with the Tweeter Crossover things that would come with it from factory...So could somebody tell me what the crossover does.Do i need them for the tweeters to work...anything else i need to know or do.I'm jus thinking that it'll work but just hope that i don't blow them again.I know it depends on the HU also.I have a SPL 400w amp and a RF P2 12

Without any crossover or at least a high-pass filter, you're going to blow them again.

Crossovers split up a range of frequencies and send them to the appropriate speaker type. In this case, the high frequencies to the tweeter. Without it, the tweeter is getting the full range, and tweeters don't handle bass too well.

Awwww I see....well not a smart move to buy them i guess.Sucks cuz i know alot about electronics and shit but audio is not my fortay

Would having my HPF on my HU turned up to 125 help.

Here... crossover of the simplest form. Find out the lower number in the frequency response range for your tweeters and pick the appropriate cut-off frequency:

Yes. They don't cut off completely at 5.6KHz (6db rolloff / octave), so that's just about perfect.

If he's running them off the stock connectors, isn't there already a cross-over in place? It might not be exactly the right frequency, but it wont blow the tweeters, right?

While I cannot confirm how the 99+ is wired, almost every "premium" factory stereo uses a filter capacitor soldered directly onto the back of the tweeter. This is done for 2 reasons... it is cheaper when it is integrated into the tweeter and doesn't require separate wiring/module/labor to install, and so the tweeter assembly can be replaced as a whole if someone complains that the tweeter is out (won't have to troubleshoot blown cap vs blown tweeter)

In the case of the Rockford tweeters, looks like they were originally part of a component set. A filter cap "bass blocker" should be used since the original crossover is missing.

Not sure what you're looking for at a pawn shop... but I wouldn't waste my time. Just buy those bass blockers and call it a day.

I'm going to see if they have bass blockers in there befo i got an order some off the net....they only sell audio equip. that they have purchased from RF to sell. They won't take any used audio stuff cuz dey don't know if it's working. They also have other stuff in there so it won't hurt for me to go check.

Tweeters came yesterday and tested um out. Then got them ready for a quick install when the bass blockers come.I had to cut the lil things off that held the factory tweeter in place. Then i took a peice of velco and attached one side to the tweeter and the other to the "holder wall" to keep it in place.
