I'm about to embark on making CAI's for the 3400 engine. Right now I'm getting the pipe to make one for myself, so that I'll know exactly which pieces I need and so forth. They will be 3" ID, madrel bent, stainless steel. I'm planning on selling them without the filter, as it will simplify operations and I know people have difference preferences on filters and might already have one if they have a WAI. Right now I'm just checking to see what kind of interest is out there. You won't have to wait very long once I start producing, as I can get my supplies quickly. So who's interested?

The couplers are going to be red, blue, yellow, and black. I'm 95% sure on that, but will be finalizing everything within the next few weeks. I'll probably be looking at about $125+shipping for the pipe and couplers, seeing as how it is stainless steel and 3" diameter.

Just an idea: aluminum would be preferable for those of us that would install such a device for an actual performance gain - stainless steel doesn't dissipate heat, but aluminum does. That helps keep the intake charge coller, longer.

Of course, SS will look nice all polished up...

If you want to differentiate yourself from those who already make this kind of product, make one for the 96-98 3100. I am not aware of anyone who makes a CAI for the 3100 for those years.

I have the 3400, so that's pretty much what I have to go on as far as developing the product. As far as the aluminum goes, I want to make something that will last, and stainless steel is the best bet for that. I drive my car everyday, including winters, so the intake has to be tough. Also, I'm not sure the heat of the pipe would make an incredible difference, as you are still getting a ton more airflow, and the distance the air has to travel doesn't really give it much time to heat up. If there isn't any interest, I won't pursue the project. So far it doesn't look too good, since I really haven't gotten any people that have shown interest.

I built my CAI out of Mandrel Bend Stainless Header pipe. A friend of mine has an aluminum CAI on his Alero. After he and I came back from a drive one nite we popped both hoods and compared how hot both intakes were........mine was cooler to the touch than his.

But after both were sitting for a while with the hoods closed mine got much hotter than his did from the heat soak. The air moving through the pipe while you're driving will keep the pipes at very close to the same temp. I use a heat blanket that I wrap around it when I go to the track so I never have a problem sitting in the staging lanes.

Ok, I'm going to get the supplies, and will post pics when I'm done with mine. Pics will be installed and before installation. It'll still be a few weeks before I start producing though, so sit tight.
