JBL BP300.1 - 300 watt sub amplifier
2 JBL GT100's - 10" subwoofers

how do you all feel about this for my car? the subs claim to stand up to 1000 watts a piece but i cant afford an amp that powerful. i think if i bridge the amp i can get 600 watts out of it, is that right? someone maybe should explain the best way for me to wire this if i decide on it.

oh ya, i can get all of this for $268 u.s. including wiring kit:)

almost all JBL IMO is crap... their subs sound like crap, the amps overheat all the time, and they way overrate the power of everything they have... i think their top-of-the-line amps are good tho, the pyramid shaped ones or something?? i'm not sure about that, tho... ask car audio dave for his opinion, he knows his stuff :P

Well, JBL (especally their higher lines) make nice home audio....

....AFA car audio, JBL dosn't seem to be too high in the chain, although my experience with their home audio stuff is good

I have the JBL BP1200.1 and its a great amp. I've only had it over heat a few times and that was after an hour of LOUD music on a 95 degree day, and it cooled off and worked fine. I'm running it a 1 ohm now and its still going strong and the SQ is great from it. I'm not sure on the specs for the 300.1, but I would guess you can only get 300 to 400 watts from it. Look in the manual and find out what ohm loads the amp is stable at, like the 1200.1 puts out 1400 watts at either 1 or 2 ohms. Then you need to look at your 2 speakers, are they single or dual voice coil speakers? and what ohm are the coil(s) rated at? For instance, if you have a dual coil 2 ohm sub you can wire each speaker in parallel making each sub 1 ohm, then wire the two subs in series for a total ohm load of 2 ohms at the amp. If you don't know how to wire amps, check out JL audio's site, they have a good explaination of how to wire subs IIRC. But as far as JBL's amps, they are pretty good nowadays, espically the BP series and the new crown amps look awesome, albeit expensive. But I know for a fact that the 600.1 and 1200.1 are good amps and MANY ppl use them and very few have had problems. I would assume the 300.1 is just as good as those others, just less used since its smaller watts and everyone seems to want the high watt amps now.

Oh one other thing, what are those subs rated at in RMS watts? Is that 1000 peak or RMS? Depending on how many watts they want rms, you might wanna consider getting a 600.1 or even a 1200.1, theres a guy on ebay who's name is Scala1, hes an EXCELLENT seller and he prolly has that 1200.1 for $250 or so, I'm not sure on the most recent prices as I've had mine for over a year, but hes got thousands of feed back and I know many ppl that have bought from him, including myself, and hes an excellent guy to deal with. Anyway, good luck and happy bumping.

i had a friend who bought some JBL subs at BestBuy in Memphis, Tn. (which is about an hour away) and we had to carry his subs back 9 times. one time we didn't even make it out of memphis before they blew again. i personally thought they sucked a**.

well thanks for your opinions on the JBLs. how do you feel about pioneer then?

I've never had any problems out of pioneer, but i've only owned one set of pioneer premier subs. they were awesome. stood up to continuous abuse. they quit making them a couple years back though, but if they still made them i'd buy another pair. i have a friend and his dad owns a stereo shop that deals pioneer. he has all pioneer in his truck and it sounds ok. mids and highs are could be better, but bass dont sound that bad. but of course he has the top of the line stuff so that may be a contributing factor

I do believe they still make the premier series, i have seen them.

they do still make the premier line, but not the actual product like i had. everyone i talked to called them nickel-plates.

Never said their subs were good, said the amps were, and I've never blown a sub, blew one old bass tube that was 3 years old once, but never blown a sub, and I've had some pretty cheap subs in my time. I can't believe you blew the same type of sub 9 times in a row, but I think I would start to blame something other then the sub, but I guess its possible. But I can say with good confidence that the BP line of jbl amps are good.

well. it may have been our fault kind of. they might of had a little to much juice flowing to them, but we weren't very far over their supposed rms rating. but still. if they can't handle a little bit of extra power they're crap anyway

I suppose, but it would also depend on how clipped that extra power was and at what frequency you played could factor in as well, but I see your point. I have not heard anything good about jbl subs, nothing bad either cept your post, except the new GT line of subs, I have heard that those are ok.
