View Full Version : Ram Air Intake

So, I bought a ram air intake, and now I'm looking at it in confusion. The ram air has a hole with a grommet, and a little "nipple" as I've seen it called on a website. Basically a little hollow attachment coming off the intake. Now, when I removed the air box from the throttle body, I also noticed a hose back behind it that went into some sort of device with another hose coming out the other side that went into the oil area. There is also a hose which came with the intake. Now, I'm assuming the grommeted hole is for the IAT sensor, though the IAT sensor does not fit, and the "nipple" is for the hose that came with the intake to run into the hose that goes into the thing with a hose coming out of either side. Please forgive my lack of terminology. I'm looking for as much detailed instructions as possible as I don't want to do something wrong and spew oil into the intake or some other sort of horrible incident.

I'm thinking your first problem might be the fact the RAM air was made for the 3400 v6 not the 2.4 engine. I could be wrong though.
Honestly, you might have saved your money and gotten a Cold Air Intake and noticed actual gains over the RAM air.

And secondly, I live in Washington state, it rain ALOT. Lots of puddles most of the year. So I'm not thinking it's a good idea for a CAI.

I believe you are slightly 'confused' (no disrespect intended) ... what you are showing in the picture above which I believe is of what you have, is actually a warm air intake (WAI) and NOT what GM called their RAM-AIR system. Now, in regards to your questions, I don't know if I am being overly stupid tonight but you 'lost' me  ... can you rephrase it :)

Like Kelly said what your showing is a WAI, next best thing to a CAI.
CAI > WAI > RAM > Stock !

Oh ok I was a bit confused myself then. What I understand about the CAI though is that the air filter sits inside the fender, correct? If that's the case, here in washington we can get some pretty decent sized puddles which could easily submerge the filter in water. So not good.

well you wont stay in a puddle for more than less than a second if your driving right? unless you park in a puddle.
otherwise if you have a K&N filter (they are well oiled) or a waterproof filter, you should be fine.

Typically the IAT goes into the hole/grommet on the intake pipe, and the nipple/hose should go to the now-disconnected hose that runs down to the PCV baffle (the keystone shaped plate near the oil filter). If the IAT doesn't fit, try a different grommet... it wouldn't surprise me if some of these cheap WAI kits don't have the right size hole/grommet.
