You'll be hard pressed to get much more bass out of the Monsoon system just by changing out the speakers. You might get a bit more of a full sound by swaping out the stock 4x6 comps up front with a round set (5.25 or 6.5), but you'll probably find you lose low end if you replace the Monsoon rears.

In terms of brand, there are all kind of opinions and it's going to come down to what sounds good to you, but I'm a big fan of Polk for both sound and value.

"Cheap" is also very relative. Give us an acutal dollar amount that you're looking to spend and I'm sure there will be a bunch of other suggestions.

waht i want to do is change the whole monsoon setup.
which means having a shop replace all the speakers, and putting in a new HU

i know its costly.

i'd like to spend up to $600, but i'll be saving up for a while for that

you can save money buy putting it all in yourself. installing speakers and a new HU is not that hard, and shope prices for doing that stuff is a ripoff.

i agree with TK on doing it yourself...and if your not forsure on the wiring harness i know for a fact at there are plug n play harnesses out there but i'm not forsure about for the ga's as for the speakers ....well they'll take sometime so plan for a few hours for everything if your doing it all at one time ....

Jake, I agree that if you can do the install yourself you'll save a lot of cash, but I completely understand if you'd rather just pay someone to do it for you. What you may want to do is call a couple of shops, tell them you have a Monsoon GA (that's important for them to know) and see what they'll give you for an estimate on the install. There are a few different ways to work with the stock amp and different shops might do it differently. Somthing to keep in mind though is that because of the Ohm loads of the stock speakers, you can't just drop anything into the rear of a Monsoon GA and have it work properly with the stock amp, so you may be better off just running all new speaker wire and taking the amp out of the picture all together (<-another issue to mention to any shops you talk to). Also, it's worth mentioning that there are a LOT of people who don't run any rear speakers, especially if you have plans to throw in a sub at some point, but that's up to you.

$600 for speakers and a deck is a decent budget but if you're looking for more boom and less of a headache, you might want to add a new (non-Monsoon) four channel amp to the plans and avoid the potential hassle.

Yes, that's what 4 channel means.

The tweets and front midrange driver comprise the component set, they get powered together.

I believe all the GTs had the stock component set up front, so yes, 6 speakers if you're counting the tweeters. The components were an option in the SE models.

I stand corrected. No rear speakers stock eh? Didn't know that was an option.

Actually for quality sound and you are trying to save money, I personally would spend it on 4 chan amp, new speakers, another amp and a sub.

You can always upgrade your deck later. This way you get the quality sound you want
with your stock deck.
