Are you looking at a nice addition to your low end or are you looking for a car shaker? 1000 for one sub will get you a pretty nice setup, my entire setup cost about $800.

I have to recommend Alpine myself, right now I am running two 10" Alpine Type E's off a 750 watt Alpine amp and I am very impressed. Throwing this out there also if you are interested I have a single 10" Alpine Type E in a sealed box that I am looking to get rid of.

basically i want the extra options like ipod and mp3 an aftermarket deck offers and i want a sub to increase the bass of the factory system... to me the stock monsoon sounds great but thats probably because my old system was in a 93 cav that had 3.5" speakers up front that sucked balls. alpine is what i wa slookin at to. blackhawk what do u think of your 9883?

personally I don't see a stock speaker system being able to keep up with an after market sub? You will want to upgrade to some componants sooner or later.

Zapco amps, Treo sub SSI series, Morel componants. Kenwood deck with usb.
But 1000 won't quite do it.
Crossfire amps are really good and clean, I would go with them if I were in a budget.

really... i think the aftermarket system would sound good with a single sub combo. just looking for quality not spl.

I liked it, while it worked. FM went out so it's in a box waiting for my lazy ass to send it in. The Ipod cable for it is like 30 bucks, and you can get them on eBay for about $150 shipped, maybe a little more because you're in Canada. For the price get a 9884 though, bit better looking and a newer model.
Though I'm biased, I like my Diamond Audio amp, it was about $270 shipped on eBay. The only time it's gone into protection is when I had some crossed wires and it doesn't dim my lights unless it's cold and I turn it up right at startup.

i was looking at a 9885... odd that alpine would cause u a problem. ive heard nothing but good things about all of there products from decks to subs. i dunno i was looking at getting an alpine deck.. type r dvc 10 and a 400 rms alpine amp. any comments about this?

ok was looking around hes what ive been looking at (yes i knw there are other products besides alpine) was looking at an alpine 9885 head unit, alpine dvc 4x4ohm type r 10 in a sealed box and to power it an alpine mpr-m500 amp.

specs on sub at 500 rms handling and the amp is 500rms total. should be a good combo... question.. will the sub be enough? i want quality not spl remember. basically the stock system with some good bass and the headunit for the features. please get back to me. total is around 900-1000 bucks.

I love my Alpine deck and the amp I had was great but the subs weren't the best sounding in my opinion. I reccommend looking into a JL sub.

I'm a Phoenix Gold guy my self. That seems steep for a single 12, one amp and a H/U Mike. It would sound good though, but I would also get some 6.5" for the doors and 6x9s for the rear.

well actually i was curious about your guys thoughts on ebay. i could get all the same stuff and a decent wiring kit for 600-700

Mike, there's always a flawed product, no matter how good the maker. And somehow it seems I always get the flawed product.

So if you get just the H/U amp and sub wont the Monsoon speakers and amp not work as well. They are 2 ohm and most stuff aftermarket is 4 ohm.

Most mulit-channel amps (2,4 or whatever channel) can be run at 2 or 4ohms..so it really doesnt matter.Just look wat the amp would produce @ 2ohms...but i would ditch the monsoons

They should work fine, I've never seen a complain about the quality, though alot of the time people don't stop with replacing the Monsoon HU, they replace all the Monsoon stuff.

cranch

the monsoon speakers will work fine with the newdeck. its a matter of plugging into the harness and attaching the monsoon remote to the new cd player. u end up with an aftermarket HU with the factory speakers. throw in a sub and amp and walla... stereo.

I hear yas, but I added aftermarket 6.5s and 6x9s to the monsoon and they have no bass at all. Dont really matter with my amp and subs though.

cranch

i cant replace the monsoon speakers cause i am on a budget.

has anyone hear had experience in these cars with a single 10? looking for opinions whether a 12 is more what im looking for.

I would go with a single 12. One ten will add some bass, but you'll like a single 12. or you could to two 10s

I run a single 12 (Alpine type S) and it's perfect for me but a 10 might work just fine for your needs. It's going to depend on exactly what you're looking for. The 10, if set up properly, will hit a little tighter (though you'd be hard pressed to notice) and the 12 can reproduce slighly lower frequencies (again, some people can hear the difference, others can't). If space isn't at a serious premium though, I'd probably go with a 12 but that's just me. Keep in mind though, regardless of what you choose, with stock speakers up front you're going to have to set things up just right so that you're not hearing just the lowend coming from your trunk. Good luck with it though, keep us updated and post some pics when you get things put in.

Personally I really like my set up... I payed only 450 for it... 15" Kicker L7 solobaric with a Kenwood amp, 1.2 ferad tsunami capacitor. and a box that is 35 inches wide... so i no longer have trunk space but who needs it? and monster speaker wire is the best you can get, get the amp hook up kit from radioshack.com or you can go to the store and order it from them, dont let them tell you they cant because I work there and they just have to do something called direct2u... the kit is 129.99. i dont remember the model number on my amp but im pushin 900 rms at 2 ohms. And if your keeping the monsoon factory cd player just go with a low pass converter i think is what its called. You just wire your RCA's up to your rear deck speakers... really easy.
