I know this isnt the right place , but i think this is going to reach the people that would know the answers i need.
Im looking to add cruise control to my 2002 Grand am SE1 (5speed). SO ive bee doing some research, and it looks as if i need to geta vacume unit, and an electronic switch unit. So here are my questions:
1. can I obtain a factory CC switch stalk, and swap that with either my light/directional switch, or my wiper switch?
2. if i can do that, does anyone know what that part number is (I looked thru the threads and didnt find anything.)
3. Does anyone have any sort of experience with them? Im an experienced car audio/remote start/security installer, but this would be a challenge for me.

I don't think you'd get a CC stalk, but a CC steering wheel. All GAs (that I've seen) have used controls on their steering wheel instead of the typical setup, saves space on the multifunction switches or something. So you would need the steering wheel (Airbag can be deployed, you would swap yours over) and the clock spring for interior parts.

You will need the electonic module with the cable, mounting bracket, male plug end, and switches. I currently have 2 switches mounted under the radio that control mine. You will need to make a ten wire harness.
If you want to go with steering wheel contols then you will need to replace the steering wheel/column.
I found the wiring diagram in my Haynes manual and worked off of that.
Good luck, I will be around (I'm always around) if you run into any snags.

Audiovox markets some simple universal cruise systems.
2501316 is a universal electronic unit, and the controller options are 2503742 or 2503421. These numbers will get you started, you made need extras for particular vehicles.

I remember reading somewhere that the majority of GM vehicles come pre-wired for CC, I consulted my haynes manual, but the picture they showed for things was for a 3.4L not the 2.2. So it was no help. I did find the schematicfor the CC system, and it looks as if i can tap into pre-existing systems for most of the info the CC needs for info. Does the throtle control use a vacume or cable actuation? (I dont really know if im even asking the right question) Everywhere i look they are talking about minimum vacume inches...

OEM is all electric with the cable, no vacume. Once you figure all the wiring out it really is easy. I hated not having cruise and use mine now daily. Pretty sure there is no wiring for you now, but it's only 10 wires to make it work.

thanks for the PN's wallflower. Here's another question for you...if i were to find a steering wheel with the CC controls, can i use that in conjunction with an aftermarket control unit?

Couldn't tell you on that one. I would say not probably.

I cant imagine that the switches are going to do anything different...I mean, the set button should send one signal, and the accelerate another...all they are are switches. You would just need to make the proper connections. You are probably right that they arent compatable...it just seems like it would work.

On that note, ^^, Ive considered getting an after market steering wheel that has the "NOS" buttons. I would have a regular toggle switch somewhere for the on/off function, and use the buttons as the set and accel.
