Can't find any posts on this subject. Had an irritating rattle on the driver side of my car, tore into it and found the sway bar was snapped at the bushing. My question is, is this common? And how difficult is it to replace?

No I dont think it is very common. What sway bar is it. It is much easier to replace the rear than it is the front.

doesn't have a rear sway bar. And according to my RPO code, it's a FE2 suspension. Not sure what size bar that is.

Did the bar break or did the bolts rot out? I had to replace the bolts on my '96.

It shouldn't be too hard to replace. That particular swaybar (and FE2 suspension) should be the most common one found in the junkyards.

Tenspeed: The bar itself snapped.
And thanx for the input Matt, do you by anychance know the diameter of the bar? Junk yard told me 22, 24 or 30. I have no clue.

Sorry - the sway bar size vs suspension level is one thing I haven't deciphered yet. I would measure your broken one, find any 3100-powered GA (except ones with 14" wheels/tires, if they aren't gone yet) in the u-pull-it yard and measure that one. I wouldn't make any assumptions on size or what the junkyard staff tells you.

This should help in your measuring. Sway Bar Measuring Tape (http://www.energysuspension.com/pdf_instruc/17276.PDF)

Ok, another question. Do I have to lower the sub frame to swap out the sway bar? Read the Chiltons and Haynes and niether one said it had to be done, but it looks like it has to drop outta the way when i'm under there.

changing/upgrading a swaybar is as easy as filling the tank with gas. just roll the car up on some ramps and go to town. you should be able to see what you have to do in order to get everything squared away. just be prepared to be under there for a while
