I have recently got a new 350 watt amp, I only have a 220 watt amp wiring kit. I turned the amp level down about half and It bumped my sub good for like half a minute, and then it cut in and out then stopped working, now whenever I turn it on it was on protect. I figure okay, it must be the power wire/ eveything else. So I went to Wally World today and got a 500 watt amp Installation kit, and installed it, still turns on and goes to protect. I put the new amp wires etc on my old 200 watt amp, and it wont turn on at all..
My dash Is torn up (open) and All the wires are hanging out etc, ready for it to be re-installed, oh and I ran all the wires to the trunk except the remote turn on wire, I figured it wouldnt make a difference, so idk if thats it.
Oh and the amp is a Zapco i-force i1200 350 watt

You didn't run the remote wire to the trunk? It's hooked to the amp correct?
Check your sub wires, mine went into protect alot one night after I rewired it and I had hooked it up wrong.

i run a 1000watt class D amp but only run an 8 gauge wire and it runs just fine. i'm certain that the power wires aren't the source of the problem

I had the same problem with a mono channel amp. Mine was done for. Return it if you can. I would suggest not buying a wiring kit for a certain wattage. Just buy all the wires individually. I run just under 1000 watts and use 4 ga. power, 2 ga. ground. Remote and RCA doesn't matter. Not one problem and it's been over a year.

I just buy mine in a guage set, if the wire is short enough you don't need anything bigger for ground.

sounds like either you blew a fuse..or you clipped your stuff to death...
First thing..Check ur inline fuse, and your amps fuses...if thats fine try hooking up an ipod or portable cd player to the amp to see if it will send out a signal...if all of that stuff works then i would recheck the wiring...
But just because a kit says 3000watt or 220watt you go by the size of wire in the kit...I have seen some 3000watt kits have 8ga wire in them..(no way in hell) and I have send 1000watt kits with 2ga in them...Since your not running a ton of power I would stick with 8 ga for now...

It had the onld remote wire from the 220 watt amp kit, old though.
Now my amp is working, I wired everything back up, found out it was the ground, and the protect was possibly the old remote wire, but no worries, now it is working, everything wired. If youd like ill take some pictures once i clean up my trunk and get things looking spiffy.
Thanks for the help

Oh and I am using the 8 guage ground from the 220 watt amp kit, and its working fine, I have a 11 guage ground incase the 8 breaks or something goes horribly wrong.
Thanks again

11 gauge is smaller than 8...if anything go up to 4.

Every time my amp's gone into protection mode, it's always been a problem with the ground. I would even personally recommend adding a toggle switch to your remote wire (if your headunit doesn't have a subwoffer control feature). It's way easier than pulling a fuse every time you want to run the stereo without the sub on.

I would HIGHLY recommend NOT using 11 ga. ground. A good rule of thumb is to have a larger ground wire than an power wire. That is what I have always done and never had any problems. You can never really go to big but you can go to small. The quicker you can take the load off the amp (higher ga.), the better cooling and performance. I'm not trying to make too much of this but it will save you money in the long run:)

dont listen to this guy, he obviously doesnt know what he is doing or is running an overrated watt amp.
8 gauge is good for small 4 channels and sub amps up like 400-500 or so....
if i were you, id go for a kit with 4 gauge in it, that way everything will work better and your amp will have an easier time getting the power it needs to run, plus you'll have a little room to upgrade later on.
