In the next 2 days, I will have everything I need to lower my car - springs, struts, strut mounts. The H&R springs I'm using will drop the car 1.5", and I just need to know from someone who has done this before whether or not I will need to compress the springs to install the mounts.

I intend to remove the factory strut/spring/mount as 1 piece, and install the aftermarket equipment the same way - out with the old, in with the new, as it were.

Yes, you will need to compress the springs. I rented some spring compressors from autozone. When I returned them I got a full refund! Now hard to do, just time consuming.

Having taken off and put on my 2000 H&R springs many times let me tell you really do not need a spring compressor with these when the strut is extended the spring is barely compressed at all. Impact wrench will make the mount install 10x easier though

When we did lowering springs on several 99+ GA's at a mod day, we had to use spring compressors. Rent them.

Yea i did the first time just never needed them the next 2 times when I had the strut mount malfunctions. Seriously the way the H&Rs are built they don't compress much when the strut is fully extended I even called them about this and they said it was normal and the stock spring needed the compressor because it was under much more pressure.

It's not going to cost you anything, so I'd personally get the compressors as a safety insurance.

Yes Jason you will need to compress the springs to get the plates back on. I also recomend using compressors when removing it too.

I just did a quick 'how-to' in this thread for someone else.

using the compressors is a "safety" thing for removing the stock springs. an impact gun taking that top bolt off with the strut on its side in the grass, with out compressors it'll move 6" at most. Not too much of a risk of "shooting an eye out".
