I have a question I'm hoping someone has an answer for.
My car has run wonderful, had it for 5 years now. But today, after driving it around all day, I get in, turn the ignition and nothing happens.

Well let me rephrase that....the dash lights come on, along with a SECURITY light I've never seen, I hear the fuel pump start up, but nothing else happens. No clicking, nothing.
Sooo, I had the battery checked, it's fine. But after making sure it has a full charge, when I turn the ignition to start the head lights go dim.

Does this problem have to do with the ignition switch, the safety switch on the brake or the fuses?

Could really use any answer, don't have the money to buy electrical parts ya can't return.;)

If the security light is on, try turning the key to 'ON' (without trying to start the car) for 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes, turn the switch back to 'Off'. Then attempt to start the car. It sounds to me like the security system has malfunctioned and needs to be reset (following the above procedure).

Yep , sounds like a passlock issue , reset it using the procedure above . The ignition cylinder may need to be replaced if this continues to happen .... ;)

Had that happen to me in my 03 a few days ago. Sat in the car for 10 minutes exactly with the key in the ON position with the security light flashing. Soon as 10 minutes were up, security light stopped flashing, turned the car to start, nothing. Turned it to off, then back to start, va-room!

So not to steal the thread, but, if this keeps happening, wouldn't it just be cheaper to get a new key cut from the stealership? I thought the key wore down before the lock did?

So not to steal the thread, but, if this keeps happening, wouldn't it just be cheaper to get a new key cut from the stealership? You could try a new key , but unless it's really worn i doubt it will fix it . The passlock is built into the lock cylinder and is usually what the problem is ... You will need to do the relearn procedure after replacing it as well .... ;)

I guess when you weigh the cost of a new key, versus the cost of the new lock, you either get away with paying for just a key and 10 minutes and it works, or you pay for a key and a new lock and 20 minutes. heh
