Ok. Yesterday I screwed up the display on my 02 stock radio.
I was wondering if I bought a used one and just swapped the board with the bulbs on it for the one with the bulbs not working will my car accept it? Or will it lock up or anything...Not replacing the whole thing just the board.
There are two ribbons of wires that will be off the new used one, didn't know if it would work? I figured it might be cheaper then trying to have new bulbs put in the old one?
Any suggestions?

I figured 30 bucks for a used one is better than a couple hundred on a new one.
My stereo works great, except for the bulbs I screwed up yesterday....
Just wondered if it would work. It's really not that hard to get the board out.
Thanks

You should be able to remove the bulbs from the used radio you bought and replace them in your display. They turn out kind of like a tail light bulb, 1/4 turn and gently remove. Way easier then swapping out the board. I think remember a "how to" around here somewhere, search for radio display.

isnt it an LCD display? i dont recall there being bulbs, other than whats behind the buttons. as far as the display goes, you should be able to take it off the new/used one, with its ribbon cable and put in on yours, but itll have to be the entire display. i might not understand what it is you are doing, but if i read it right...

Hey thanks for the info. The "bulbs" are soldered to the board, so there is no swapping them, easily that is.
You can unscrew the board from the actual faceplate and there are two ribbon cables that plug into the main unit. It wont be hard to swap them, just wasn't sure if the car will except it, I hear they are pretty touchy with the whole theftlock.
I am going to have the hubs test the board this weekend to see if I broke some of the wires on the ribbons before I buy a used one and try the swap...I think I might have because I was wrangling it around pretty good after I got the faceplate off....DUMB!!!
I did have two lights working before I screwed with it! I guess thats what I get for messing with things I shouldn't have! Expert I am not!
