I have been looking around the forums and reading that those with Flowmaster exhausts on their GAs have the Series 40. But when I looked on the Flowmaster website and saw I picture of the Series 40 muffler, I saw that it only has 1 inlet and 1 outlet. So for a GT, would I need to get the Series 80, which has 1 inlet and 2 outlets?

If you wanted the dual look of the GT I would say get an 80 series.

No. Other than a lack of space in the exhaust tunnel, the manifolds connect so you would have to make something custom there. For the .5 HP gain over a crossflow muffler it's not worth it.

I'm just trying to get some ideas cuz I'm not gonna worry about any major mods (except for lowering springs) until I get back from Iraq when I'll have the money to play with. If not a Flowmaster 80 series, what about the Borla custom cat back?

The Flowmaster works fine, I was talking to the guy suggesting true duals. The Borla is nice but it's a little too pricy for most members to consider. The major choices for mufflers are: Borla, SLP, Flowmaster 80, Magnaflow. I have a Cherry Bomb Vortex, and AJ has a similar muffler. I like the sound, nice and rumbly, but it's quiet, which will turn some members off but I don't need anything obnoxious or that will get me pulled over. Sound for me will be in a Chevelle.

I hear ya on the price of the Borla system. I'm not trying to spend that much money after my deployment :) I do like the price of the Flowmasters. And from what I have heard in person, they're not that bad sounding either.

Borla only uses 2.25 inch pipe. Not worth it in my opinion. Plus, Ive heard what they sound like and you might as well keep your stock exhaust.

You can piece together a catback from stainless 2.5" mandrel bends with a flowmaster cheaper than the Borla. Borla does have nice tips though and if they were purchased separately would add up to 1/3 the cost of that system.

I like the look though and you can find them on summitracing.com. I got my Borla tips off a guy who had cut them off his system. The quality is good and only require a wash during the regular car washing to keep them shiny unlike the stock tips which seem to start rusting at the drop of a hat.

Says who?

The Magnaflow is quieter than the Flowmaster so if thats what you are after then the Magnaflow is the better choice. If you want a little louder then the Flowmaster is the better choice. There is no right or wrong, its all about what the person putting it on wants, not what your *opinionated* research says.

The vortex is also quieter than the Flowmaster, and a former owner of a GA with a Magnaflow liked the sound of mine better. Just a tip if you want a bit quieter than the 80.

Check the exhaust vid on my CarDomain, it's on the bottom. Nice and rumbly but not obnoxious, a member on here (Josh) loves the sound and he used to run a Magnaflow.

what's the loudest exhaust you can put on a grand am and still have dual tips out the back? I'm looking for something loud, but not ricey..

You can put dual tips on pretty much any muffler, the tips are seperate so you can choose whatever style you like.

Flowmaster is probably the loudest, definitely not ricey.

Yeah he wanted 300 for that tips and labor. so i just went with a euro style muffler. not very loud even with the res cut out but its got a really deep sound. Ill put a clip of it up soon. Probabaly tomorow or sometime when im actually off during the day.

Ricer Fart can in other words?: lol:

I paid $300 total for my 80 series with resonator delete so your places price wasn't bad.

^ there a difference between ricer exhausts and nice sounding "import" exhausts. I hate when people tag parts as "rice" just because there ment for import branded cars.

"rice" is when you go down town and you hear cars with mufflers that sound like fart cans. Sry but I never heard somebody tag GReddy, HKS, Nuespeed, Skunk2, Muegen, etc. as "rice."

lol hey it sounds pretty good. really deep... not as loud as i want it though :( any ideas?
it doesnt sound rice at all... mainly cuz its a 6 cylinder :/ ??? not sure what your definition of rice sounding is but a 1.5 liter sounds alot different than a 3.4
