im looking at a 2001 grand am gt, absolutely mint, sunroof, not a scratch on it inside or out,1 owner, oowner is a guy i know, the guy wears a suit to work so i mean this thing is clean!haha . in the past the flywheel got loose and fell off so the motor was out and the tranny and everything was in perfect shape, the abs light is on, he said cause he is driving gravel sometimes and it hits the abs wires or something, its 1200 to fix for its not worth it,im in canada so cars are worth a bit more here, the only problem is that it has 220,000 kms on it,he is asking 5000 but im thinking closer to 4500.i no that seems like a hell of a lot for that car but out here its a ballpark figure, and the thing is like new, only downside is the kilometers on it.what should i think of this??

would it have the moonsoon stereo in it? its a 2001 so how would i tell if it has it or not?

thanks

The ABS light is more likely a shot wheel bearing or two at that mileage. Have you gone for a ride-along/test drive yet?

Price is pretty fair IMO - maybe a bit high. Then again I'm selling mine, so I'm biased. hahaha

oh - if it has the monsoon stereo it will say "Monsoon" on the head unit.

IMO that is way too much money for a 2001 with over 220,000 KMs.

$1200 to fix the ABS issue seems really high. Of course that depends on what is wrong. Don't take the owners word on the diagnosis, however.

To me I'd pass and look for one with lower miles.

Just checked the Canadian Black Book, and with 220,000 KM's they won't even appraise the value. Highest KMs I could get a value for was 180,000. And with that:

Trade-In Values

Year Make Model Series Body Style
2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT 4D Sedan

Based on the kilometers entered
and the options selected, your vehicle's classification
is appraised as: Below Average.

Depending on your vehicle's condition, the value may be appraised within the High and Low range. * less Reconditioning Costs

Low: $579.00 High: $2,829.00

Mind you those are trade-in values. But IMO his asking price (and your offer) are way too high for that particular vehicle.
