i was wondering if this was a decent cold air intake?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GRAND-AM-SE-GT-ALERO-3-4L-COLD-AIR-INTAKE-1999-2005-2PC_W0QQitemZ160237896462QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item1 60237896462&

I want to get one, but I do not want to spend a whole lot on it.

You'd be better off getting the 3-piece from Chrome Intakes, pretty sure they use K&N too.

dont use the one you posted for the reason of the filter. havent heard anything bad about chrome intakes either. Personally, I wouldnt buy and intake off ebay.

^Actually, Chrome Intakes is a pretty good company from what I've heard, and a fairly nice alternative to spending twice as much on an MP Racing cai.

I got my three piece cold air intake (with the K&N Filter) from Chrome Intakes on eBay and it works great! No problems with it what so ever.

Why not? If it uses a quality filter than there isn't much more needed.

i just dont trust anything that comes from ebay. Its a personal preference. i didnt say he shouldnt consider it, just stating that i wouldnt.

Yeah I am looking at a 3 piece on ebay, I might get it in a couple weeks, I haven't really done anything to my car yet haha, it needs something.

But ebay is a good place for me, I have bought 10+ things and haven't got anything bad (knocks on wood)

Very true, I bought one when I had my GA. They do send you a K&N cone too, and for what they sell it for, the cone itself costs almost the same as the entire chrome intakes setup.
Not many things I recommend on ebay, but this is one of those cases.

I had a 3-piece from Chrome Intakes on my Grand Am and bought another for my Camaro. For the price they are very good quality. You can save about $50 by going with their generic filter instead of the K&N.

Piping is piping if the filter is cheap just ditch it and get a K&N or AEM...for those saying its junk go pay $150+ on the same thing somewhere else. A good filter is only $50 you can't sit here and tell me piping accounts for the other $100+ of that price

Just make sure that the cone is foam, not paper. Ive heard some bad things about the quality of paper filters.

See that's what I meant with the chrome intakes one, the whole thing with piping costs pretty much the exact same as if you were just ordering the cone from K&N.

K&N and most performance filters use a cotton element iirc, if you're stock you most likely have a paper element filter

well with the ebay thing, like i said its just preference. ive heard if issues with shipping and b.s. like that so i dont even want to chance it right now. who knows, maybe down the road i give it the old college try. and you do recall correctly with the filter statement.

Correct.

Paper filters out dirt particals better. Foam or gauze provide better airflow but filtration suffers.
