Guys I apologize in advance if you have seen these threads before. This is however not hypothetical. I have a serious question and am open to all suggestions. However, I will not be touching the exhaust again until later.

My question I guess would be.

For 700 dollars.. What performance parts could I put in for the maximum possible HP/TQ gain? I can't come up with much but I know there are some 4th geners around here with some bitchin' rides!

I like idea of a cam upgrade but that's most likely going to become out of my range very quickly.

Let me know guys.

:shit: for $700 i'm pretty sure you can get some made

Yeah probably but w/ the clearance issues I believe the gain might be negligible. Their design would be inherently restrictive. But I may be wrong on this.

I don't get it, the 4 bangers are the ones making the numbers at the track.
Sometimes I wish I had done my homework and got a quad 4.

that's what i did. but we'll see if there is anything other than the intake and exhaust thing. shit for 700 i'm sure you could find some spray. just a thought

well there is a few things.

2.3l HO manifold with tb ( won't give you much power gain unless you have a built motor or boost
RSM intake manifold (really no gain there either)
have your stock tb ported or modify a 2.3tb to fit
secret cam swap (serious know how)
intake
exhaust
pacesetter header (needs modification)

i'm sure i'm missing a few thing.

pretty much the only actual HP gains that you will see is if you build the motor, boost it or but nitrous on it. like with my intake and exhaust i feel a little but it's not too noticable

how much power would all thaat add and would i need transmissions mods for boost I have an automatic, what modification for the headers and where can i get the secret cams, do 2.3l ho parts bolt up or need modification? got a lotta questions

not much hp gain because the HO parts are really only felt the 5spd cars because they bring improvement to the high rpms. so not much for the autos like ours. i hear the tb upgrade works tho.

for the tranny, it should hold fine underboost aslong as it is kept under around 10psi and you don't beat on it all day it should hold under the boost.

secret cams are from the 2.3l HO motors and there is a write up somewhere about it. but it's take mechanical know how for it. the header can be bought for the 2.4 cavalier but need your stock falange from you stock header and cut off the falange from the new one. weld the old falange to the new tubes and angle them down so to clear the steering rack. it might cost a muffler show a few hundred to do.

here is the write up to put the ho manifold on our car

hit me up on aim if you would like. my comp is on most of the day

so there is no need to build the motor or trans for up to like 8 pounds of boost or like 240 hp i work at a shop so secret cams no problem degreeing them in as long as they bolt up, whats the cheapest i can find a turbo wastegate and bov, i gotta lotta questions i jus need a clear cut plan for the power i want and price i want willing to spend up to $1000 sorry 98gtkid 4 the thread jacking but heres the math 7%+ for every pound of cooled air forced in 8 pounds should add up to about 56% increase in power as long as i keep the IAT above 70 or so

Not trying to impede the growth of the thread but were slightly off topic here.. and no offense but imo 8psi is not gonna push you to 240hp. It's just not that simple.

Well how much of a bitch would it be to do a 3400 topswap? Parts? Labor?
Or would a newer 3100 topswap be better? I'm shootin in the dark here guys, if you have an idea post it here!! We need to get the 3100 pack movin.

well u should be safe so long as you don't run the car all day long. again i'm not sure about the cams. but there will be guys that do know.

u can do a turbo built for a grand if you konw where to look. you will have to piece the kit together tho. and you will have to have a topmount manifold made or have a cavalier one modified. but i'm pretty sure you will have to lose the hvac tho. i had mine made so i can keep the hvac in mine.

but if you want to do a budget build you can pick up a t3/t4 turbo kit for a civic off of ebay. now keep in mind that turbo will be pretty weak. but it can be used. i've seen people use these kits and they are a great starter kit. so u will want to get a good name turbo (garrett) once you get the car running. or do what i'm doing if i can't pick up a s/c kit this summer. i'm picking up the kit off ebay and selling the turbo, wastegate, header and bov. i'm going to use the oil lines, intercooler, boosttubes and i know kids here will eat that stuff up so i will get my money back. i already have a garrett t3/t4 turbo and a turbo XSrfl bov that i'm using. but i still have some odds and ends.

but yeah we completely :jacked: this thread so hit me up with an email or a pm
