hi guys, i'm new to car mods. i've been reading about some mods but never done one myself yet. I'm planning to put on a CAI soon, but a real CAI might cause a lot of problems for me (theres lots of snow and rain from where i live). So i'm thinking about getting a stage 2 short ram intake from Doctor Speed for about $130. Do you guys think its worth the money? And can some1 briefly explain to me how its going to be installed, cuz it sounds like an easy job but i've never seen one myself.
p.s. has anybody had any problems with doctor speed?

thanks a lot!!

From what i heard recently about Dr.Speed your not going to wanna buy from them. Either buy from MPRacing or E-Bay.

As for a short ram intake and since doctor speed has been haveing problems. Try weapon-r's intake. http://weapon-r.com/english/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=pontiac%20grand%20am&sort=20a&page=2 I have it, i havent had any problems with it and it works great. To install it just take off the stock airbox, connect the piping to the MAF sensor, connect it to the throttle body, and or course put the cone on and a few other minor things and your set. It comes with instructions.

And buy a tb-maf tube from www.mpracing.org or custom make one. No more ribbed tube.

I actually came across that intake a couple days ago. I read the description on the website and it says "The concept is to create two different air velocity profiles, one traveling at higher speeds than the other. " Do all short rams work like this? I had no idea.

No as far as i know this is the only one like that. Its got another tube within the tubing its weird, i saw some videos on the cones and they actually get better airflow then the K&N cone. Granted im sure the videos are a little biased.

I just recently installed a short ram air on my grand am, and it was a fairly easy install which is saying alot since I am car noob. I bout an intake on e-bay for like $40 shipped and will soon put a $50 K&N filter on it. The one I bout was built for a Cavalier but works fine on the GA. I would say this is a good entry level mod and can notice a slight performance boost. The butt-dyno tells me about 5hp gain. And at the very least it looks alot better than the clunky plastic air box you have now.
