depends, do you have or want to have a sub? If yes than 6.5's would better than 6x9's, BUT If you have good round speakers in the front and a sub, than you don't need any rear speakers.

I HIGHLY! reconmend what I did 6.5 in the front with tweeters and then if you want you can do 6x9 in the rear for more high pitched since the subs add alot of bass

I wouldnt suggest 4s in front. I agree with nitr0 to put 6.5s in the doors and then either 6.5 in back or nothing. 6x9s are too loud and will drain out the fronts, and you want your sound stage to be in front.

Agreed: 5.25 or 6.5 in front (components sound best), nothing in back, subs inn trunk :)

Then don't spend too much money on it. Most people run stock, nothing, or something cheap in back if they have subs and a good front stage. Save that money for front speakers.

I would normally prefer round speakers, but since we're only talking rear fill, 6x9's are fine (isn't worth effort to convert to 6.5") just fade them down. (or remove them) Focus your efforts on front speakers.

Or if they're blown just go to Wal Mart and buy some Pioneers or something, it's just for the passengers in back to hear more than thumping.

i got JL w1's but im going to buy w6's...and sell my w1's. then i was going to run about an 800 watt amp to those. and put my 400 watt alpine to 4" speakers in front and 6.5" in back.

thats what i was thinking...

You'll be disappointed running 4" speakers in front IMO, you can easily fit 5.25" comps or 6.5" comps.

trust us when we say that you need to go larger in front than 4". I have 12 years of car audio experience and lots of the other guys giving you advise are up there in years as well.

I ran 4" comps in my GA for about a month before realizing how much midrange I was lacking. 4" is simply WAY too small. 5.25" or 6.5" or bust, IMO.

Last 3 posts... agreed. 4" is too small for front.

^^ definately agree, go with at least 5.25 if not 6.5 in the front. 6x9's in the back are fine. Personally i like rear speakers, tried it without rears for a month or so and i hated it. so i put 6x9's in. but to each there own.

I also agree with running something bigger than 4's in the front. Like car audio dave said take our advice, some of us been doing this for a very long time. I think the only reason to run rear speakers is if u have rear passengers in the car alot. Other than that all u need is a good front stage and a rear substage.

im not going against any of you. most of you have more experience than me. but im running the 4x6s in the front now so isnt is kind of the same to run 4" in the front?

tubpub11
05-13-2008, 08:37 PM
why would you want the same, don't you want to upgrade. and actually it would be kind of a downgrade because you would have less cone area then with a 4x6. upgrading to a 5.25 or 6.5 will give you more cone area which will give you a much better mid-range response. also are you looking at components or coaxials??

Well Ok this started as a rear speaker question, so... sure go ahead and leave your 6x9's back there, but please believe us that 4x6's or ANY 4" speaker is not going to produce a good amount of loudness and mid tones to complement your subs.

PORTMAN96

coaxials. i dont have the money for components. but i dont think i can fit much bigger than 4" in the door

Many members have done it, 5.25" fits perfectly but some 6.5" dont without modification. There's a metra adaptor for it in a stickie.

hmmm...alright. i guess ill go with the 5's in the front

These are what I bought for my 6.5's, cause I didnt want to make anything.

How can you have all that money for subs, and not have any for some good comps, they will sound a million times better.

PORTMAN96
05-13-2008, 10:17 PM
well i mean, i didnt know they made the adapter plates for 4x6 to 6 1/2"

PORTMAN96

also do those rattle? and do the 6.5" fit in the circle in the door?

No and Yes. It worked perfect for my Polk 6.5 Comps

alright awesome. im going to just go ahead and do 6.5" all the way around. or should i keep the 6x9" and put the 6.5" in the doors? which setup would be louder and more clear?

Blackhawk
05-14-2008, 08:10 AM
6.5" would be clearer, but you'd have to probably make your own mounts for the back. 6x9s would drown out your front stage if you amp them so you wouldn't get good quality.

PORTMAN96

i can get the adapter plates for the 6x9s.

My old system had 6.5" comp speakers all around and honestly the subs drowned out the rear speakers and they weren't even worth it. Like a lot of people said before just throw something cheap back there you won't even hear it.

Question, do you already have 6x9's in the back? If so, I would say leave them alone and get some really good 6.5's for the front preferably components. If not, do what you want in the back, because honestly your not going to get much "clarity" coming from the rear anyway.

PORTMAN96

okay. thnx for the help guys. i've made up my mind.

im going to go with, focal 6.5" in the doors. just not sure if im going to get comps or not yet.

then im going to throw something decent but inexpensive in the back 6x9s

and im swapping my w1's for w6's

what do you guys think of these?

your guess is as good as mine... the best advise is to listen to some and then decide. If you dont have that option, then try to get some user reviews.
