I have a 2001 Grand AM SE, with the Monsoon system, with both the cd player and cassette. I want to use the cassette player with an adapter for AUX in, but the cassette player spits them all out. I've even tried regular music cassettes and it spits those out too. Has any one experienced this problem and has a fix? Or am I better off just trying to replace the cassette player, if so anyone know where I could find just the cassette part? I don't want to replace the whole head unit.

does it do the rewind and fastforword then eject thing? If so the tape deck is dead. But try this.
Tight/Loose Tape Sensor Defeat
With the radio off and the ignition on, press and hold the
CD TAPE button to disable the tight/loose tape sensing
feature to enable play of some tape head cleaners and
portable CD adapters. The radio will display READY
and flash the cassette icon. The tight/loose tape sensing
feature will then be disabled until the next cassette eject.

I've tried that sensor defeat, so it must be dead. I was thinking of getting a new head unit, but I'm not sure as to what adapters and harnesses I'd need. I guess I need to do a bit of searching...

some places offer free installs when you purchase a HU. if you aren't experience i would highly reccomend looking into having a pro do it, especially if it free. or try installing a unit in a friends car first. most of your harness's can be picked up at a part store or where ever you buy the HU
