I just changed mine out a few days ago. In my 89, I had to remove the Molding that goes around the console, by me feet and under the dash. Then I figured out how to get the console to move back. Mine had 3 sets of 10mm nuts. One set in the rear of the console by the back seat. The next two were under the middle. They were hid under my gear shift. The last set up front under the radio area.
Once those are out the console slid back in one chunck. Like GM knew they were putting POS Header cores in them so they want to make it easy for there mechanics to get at stuff. From there under the dash unscrews in layers. A big black piece of plastic (2) screws had to come out. Then the 7 screws that hold the cover over the core in place. There is two straps that hold the core in place. two 7 or 8 mm hold the straps in place that hold the core.
If the rubber hoses are off the core will slide right out. Replacement is oppsit steps of course. GM puts little rubber gaskets between the core and the tubs that come out that stick through the fire wall. After a cople years the rubber cracks or get ate by the antifreeze. Then Poof the Baste*&^rd leak. I put some #2 permitex on mine before I reinstalled it. It smelled up the car with permitex a Little for 2 days, now the smell is gone. I'm hoping it will help hold the water in after the rubber gaskets give up again.
I found getting the hoses off the core to get started was the biggest fight.
Good Luck, It's doable, just take your time. I payed 60 bucks for the core. I got quotes if over 200 bucks to get it done.

As i recall being told, i think all you have to do is lower your exhaust manifold and it is right there for you to take out.

Sorry Bro(IronRay75)
you and I are screwed when it comes to replacing the Water pump, the 95 model is the pre Twin cam Design where the water pump can only be removed by removing the timing chain first. Pre 95 you can remove the exhaust manifold and do it.

I can't tell ya' how it's done, but if you can do it more power to ya' because it was over $400 to have mine done. The part wasn't that expensive but because of the placement the labor was tremendous.

I was expecting to pay close to $1000 but the mechanic gave me the $400+ estimate before he got down in there so maybe he estimated wrong, but if so, I'll take that price any day over $1000!

Wow..Talk about the Lord working on your side.. I have an ASE Certified friend who told me he would do my water pump for me for 50 dollars.. And it is only going to take him like 2 - 4hrs to do it..So if he can get it done, then there is going to be a 50 dollar tip in it for him...
