Temp gauge on 94 grand am not woking

The temp gauge on my 94 GA se v6 3100 is not working. It sits on the left side of the gauge window and does not move even after the car is warmed up can anyone help with this problem. Thanks chris

u need to take guage cluster apart to look closer at the needle

Does it move during the startup test?

Is it plugged in at the sensor? Is the sensor good?

Look for the temp senser in the intake(single green wire) ground it, it should make the needle go all the way over(hot),that will tell ya the gauge is fine must be the senser..

This is the only good/accurate suggestion in this thread. Sorry, but all the other posts will lead you in the wrong direction troubleshooting this issue.

i'ts a know fact(even explained in the GM FSM's to do this procedure)that this works, if grounded (ckt 135) green wire,, if wiring and gauge is working properly it will force the needle over to the right(hot) side,,if it doesn't check the wiring for high resistance,IF ok then replace or inspect instrument cluster.

but if when grounding ck 135 forces your needle over then your sending unit is faulty,replace..

Maybe because the temperature sensor in the intake measures the intake air temperature. The gauge on the dash show the engine coolant temperature.

i wasn't talking IAT,i know the diff geez, i ment to say the senser's in the head/rear drivers side,some are there some are in the UIM(3800).

he knew what i ment come on..

No, I didn't. It sounded like you were talking about the IAT.

Regardless, I was also referring to suggestions about inapplicable things like fuses, gauge sweeps, and taking cluster apart for needle inspection.

Ok, so why would the temp sender be in the air intake? ,anyway no big deal hope he gets it fixed..

Which temp sender? The generic terms are why nobody knows what you're talking.

ECT = engine coolant temperature sensor - this is the sensor that he should be concerned about

IAT = intake air temperature sensor - in the intake. This sensor has nothing to do with the temp gauge.

Usually.....when someone's talking about a temp gauge problem that's(coolant) water,,not air,,,so.. if "nobody knows what you're talking" they need to take a basic auto tech class.....come on.
