View Full Version : Buy Quality Gas Tanks!

I replaced the gas tank on me 99 SE last fall (along with the the pump/sending unit/filter). I bought a cheap gas tank (99.00) from Carquest and now my car runs out of gas on hard corners with 1/4 a tank of gas or less. And when I have less than a 1/8 of a tank it runs out during hard straight line acceleration. (stop lights). I say it runs out of gas but really it continues running it just has a serious power drop. I looked at the new tank and it had a lot less of a sump inside the tank around the fuel pick up. It's not an enormous issue, but a bother. I would've paid 20 or 30 bucks more to avoid this if I knew ahead of time. Now I just try to keep the tank full.

Did that Carquest tank have the plastic bucket inside?

No bucket. It had a half hearted attempt at a sump with a couple pieces of bent steel around the pick up area. I wondered when I looked at it if this might happen. The stock tank is almost impossible to get all the gas out of mostly due to the baffels that the new tank doesn't have.

Yea, it really needs the "bucket" to keep the gas near the fuel pick up. You can't use the old one either since the tank is built around it.

Hey Tenspeed - I can't believe you're two hills over. I had no idea anyone here was so close. Do you have any pics of your ride? Have you done any mods?
