Im building a perfomance exhaust for my GA im going with 2 1/2 tubing and a thrush turbo muffler. I just needed to know whats the easiest way to get around having the catylitic converter on there as mine is going bad i guess, check engine light on saying catalyst efficiency below threshold, any tips would be helpful

all you need is a 02 simulator to replace the rear 02 sensor. you can get them online or at a performance shop

i also wanted to know what tone to anticipate from the thrush turbo muffler i want a deep mellow tone under acceleration that quiets down while cruising, will this set up add any significant horsepowerim doing a full exhaust from the manifold back any suggestions welcome

If you want deep and low go with a magnaflow or borla

I would just get a universal replacement cat in the same diameter that you're doing the exhaust with. Example... Summitracing.com has Catco high-flow cats for about $60.
any tips would be helpfulWith 2.5 pipe you're gonna lose low end torque , i'd recommend 2.25 for your application . The muffler isn't gonna give you much more HP , just change the tone . Most of the increase will come from the larger piping . As was mentioned just get a universal Cat and keep it legal , there's not much to gain with removing it anyway .... ;)

I'd almost be willing to say that even 2.25 isn't going to be much of a gain. Stock is 1 7/8" but ure not going to see a lot of power regardless. I mean, you should also do a CAI and get rid of all of the restrictive intake piping, but even then you won't see much more than 8-15whp
Tone wise, a "turbo" muffler is a straight thru design that is packed with fiberglass. You will get more of a raspy-ish (although not full out honda) tone to it.
I also have a hi flow cat (the one that Matt95gt suggests) and no res going out to dual borla turbo mufflers, and it's effen loud
What are you going to do about a header? If you keep the stock exhaust manifold, your piping upsize will still be pretty pointless. For our year cars, you will need to get a cavi header (with egr valve) and have each runner cut, bent and rewelded in order to make it fit. Just as a heads up (obviously each shop may be different) but I paid $750 in parts (header, high flow cat, dual borla turbo mufflers and 2 chrome borla tips) and then I paid another 1400 to the shop to have them make the header fit fab it all up and of course the piping & clamp and labor costs
Even if you didn't go w/ the most expensive parts, expect to pay a good chunk for what you want done

It is... stock to 2.25" was a huge difference on my car. Additionally, I wouldn't step up to 2.5" if you have an auto 2.4.

So a 2 1/4 inch exhaust with a magnaflow muffler and a high flow cat is my best bet . The partsare going to run me about $170 how much would be a normal price for the set up of the exhaust. Im not trying to spend that much because im going to a rear mounted turbo this summer

... So mentioning that would have been a good idea in your first post!
Now you ARE talking about going to 2.5" all the way down and out, and depending on how much boost you think you are going to run, you may even need to go to 3"
How about you give us the entire idea / goal you have for this year, then we can better suggest stuff to you :)

The 2.4L sounds like a angry weedwacker when you remove the cat and res, its too raspy with no cat and it stinks too

Thats pretty much the whole idea of performance for the year with a couple of other details im going to send the head out to get a port and polish job later in the year along with the secret cam swap 62 mm TB and port matching im looking to convert it to a 5 speed when im done with the engine performance im going to be running about 10 lbs of boost water to air intercooled they said thats the max on a stock engine. Thats about it and get those damn grate things of the sides of the car:lol: Any ideas would be appreciated pending as to whether i keep my license or not, a cop claims he caught me doin 80 in a 45 but i got witnesses

Gotcha
Well I don't know anything about rear-mount turbos, this is definitely going to be a custom job cause they don't make kits for it, but it's going to be fun to see how they are going to run the piping... 2.5" down and out, then back up is going to be a tight squeeze
Either way, our original ideas still apply here... Header, custom down piping to high flow cat then out to the muffler. 10lbs is probably about right... I mean, I'm tuned at 9.5psi on the charger, and on cold nights it's seeing 13 (not that i'm beating on it repeatedly)

Why not save the money and wait until the turbo build? Then you can run the appropriate diameter piping and not have to remove a brand new exhaust. I'm with Gus on the space issue, it'll probably be sitting fairly low, make sure the shop knows what they're doing.

So I think the first thing im going to do is port the exhaust manifold out, run 2 1/2" tubing to a high flow magnaflow cat then to the turbo (no res) then i dont need a muffler after the turbo correct. On the inake im going to run 3" tubing to the intercooler then to the bov then the tb. Is there any need for a fuel injectors and pump upgrade. And what about HPtuners for the top speed limiter and tuning do I need that thanks for all the advice

You're in over your head... you have lots of research to do before attempting this.
