Hey guys,

i'm brand new on this forum and i have a couple of questions to ask about the Oldsmobile Alero. I know it has the same motor as the Pontiac Grand-am V6 3400. If ever i buy a Cai from customgrandam.com will it fit right in my Alero?

Another thing, my car blocks at 170km/h. What sort of chip can i add to unblock my computer(ecu)?. Oh and if i add a Magnaflow exhaust(muffler only) will the sound me more harsh or it will have no impact?. Do i necessarly have to go 2.25-2.5 from the cat to have a nice sound like the Impala v8?

N'ways hope you answer my questions...

Nice to meet you,
Philippe

The speed limiter on the v6 is 130mph not sure why yours is cutting out around 105mph

Wrong. Depends on tire size. Chances are his Alero came with 15" wheels/tires which is limited to 105 MPH. And IIRC, the Alero with 16" wheels didn't get the 126 MPH limit that the Grand Am GT did; it probably has the 112 MPH limit that the Grand Am SE with 16" wheels got.

For the CAI, the car not only shares an engine, but is built on the exact same platform. I'm fairly confident the CAI would fit. But you should contact the manufacturer to be certain.

I am on 16 inch wheels with tire size 225/50R16 for the information.

Perhaps then all Aleros got the 105 MPH limit. Not surprising. There are no 'chips' to remove the limiter. The PCM will have to be reprogrammed.

oh thats odd it would be different from the GAGT its basically the same car :???: GM makes no sense most of the time guess I shouldn't be surprised, yea you need to get your ECU reprogrammed to remove it

The speed limiters are based on the limitations of the tires. The GT's GoodYear Eagle RS-A tires are rated faster than the old 16" SE GoodYear Eagle LS or the 15" BF Goodrich. :)

Just a question of my own. Why do you need your 105 limiter removed? You'll need a decent amount of engine work before you can push over 105 in the 1/4 mile run and it would just be dumb to try and go over that on the street. So whats the point?

Probably consider that a rhetorical question. The last member that mentioned getting to the rev limiter broke the rules by saying where he tested it and his thread was locked.

Correct. There is no Alero equivalent of the GAGT. All V6 Aleros came equipped with the 4t40-e transmission, and all had the 2 inch exhaust. My Alero GLS was limited at 105 mph.

As for the CAI fitting, it will definitely fit. My CAI was on my Alero for a short time before I picked up my GA, and it fit exactly the same in both cars.

Engine mods for the Alero should be the same as the GAGT. Exact same engine bay. If you removed the alero bumper and headlights, and put the GA's on, it'd fit. Its like how I could convert my car to a Chevy cobalt with a few quick body facade swaps.

you'd need the hood and fenders too.

I always wanted to do a alero front end swap

I was debating an interior swap, it looks a lot more finished than the GA's does.

8-10 months of not driving or working on an N-Body made me forget that the hood and fenders are different on those. GM made the Cobalt/G5 the same for those parts... Hell... even the headlights are the same (I am using projector headlamps made for the Cobalt).

List of stuff on my car different from the Cobalt: Front grille insert, Driver airbag emblem, gauge cluster color, rear taillights, rear bumper facade, and the rear decklid (Cobalt is drilled for the reverse lights, the G5 puts the reverse into the bumper on either side of the license plate). Everything else is identical.
