Well 3-4". I'm not a big fan of tinted winshields. imo it's stupid to have it any lower than 4" Call me crazy but I like to see where I'm going clearly out of all parts of my windshield.

Well if you measure 9" down front he top of your windshield...you'll find that not alot of the windshield is covered from the drivers view...so unless you like watching the clouds go by while your driving, theres not much of a view ur missing....not to mention...you can see out of tint;)

2.5% tint? Not very well.

Actually, 2.5% tint isnt that drastic of a change from 5%....its about the same, and i kno ur guna say even 5% is dark...which it is, but still, you can see out of it....

Love the tint, don't listen to people who say its too dark lol I have 5's all around and just got 9inch vinyl on the front windshield although so you all know presidential tint is the darkest, its designed so you can't see in if you put your face against the window, hence the presidential but yea, car looks good

Wow.

I have 20% all around and I have a tough time seeing through at night, I mean I can see, but not well. At 2.5% I hope for pedestrians and other vehicles/buildings that you don't drive at night that often.

 Here we go, another one of those... I guess you never back up at night.

Because when the windows are up and you take a turn/corner at night your visability is greatly reduced. If it's a not a well lit area very good chance you may not see something in your path at all. Not to mention, say backing into or out of parking spaces at night, or other area where objects dont just come from the front of your car.

It's common sense genius, reduce the amount of light passing through the glass and reduce visability. Not take a dark night and incress the reduction greater.

Wow.

Yeah, obvious from the reply they only drive in a straight line and never has to back up.

Didnt the last 'know it all' who didn't have a problem with it end up totalling his car and then late admitted that he was wrong? lmao Some people will only learn by failure alone.

Y2KGAGT
06-06-2008, 05:53 PM
Well "Buddy" IMO 2.5% poses a danger to everyone. We've had these tint discussions time and time again, yeah it looks good but I'm not the only one who thinks you are a hazard on the road having almost completely blacked out windows.

I'm not complaining about my car, just saying how sometimes it can be difficult to see when parking or driving down a dark road.

Which might as well just say STEAL ME instead, advertises what you have inside, people will break in to see and take it.

I dont live in the city, lol and everywhere i drive pretty much IS in a straight line...i see where ur comin from tho, when i am in town, everything is lit up and i can see, i dont usually back up into parking spots unless its day time, and when i do have a problem seeing (very rarely) all i gotta do is roll my window down....lol its thaaat easy....iiidk obviously our opinions are different, lol either way, my tints stayin on so idk why were even arguing... and for the "STEAL ME" reply....dont matter...somebody could steal my car too but thats not guna stop me from driving it....plus im about 25 minutes from the city....i guess u could say i live in a rural area...not as likely to happen, but your right, it could happen...idk im not so worried about it where i live, i guess ill learn when it happens...

TA^Guy
06-06-2008, 10:47 PM
No one was arguing or telling you to remove it, all she said was it must be hard to see out of it at night, you were the one that got defensive and jumped down her throat. In fact it was YOU who told her to remove the tint from her car.
yeah it looks good but I'm not the only one who thinks you are a hazard on the road.
To be honest I don't even care for dark tint. I prefer the glass to be shaded, not pitched black.

Ever go to National car shows and see full out show cars with pitch black windows? Nope, I didn't think so. I if weren't painting my truck black, I'd replace all the glass with stock clear glass and have 50% added to it.

You don't know what we mean until you visit a friends place at 2AM and HAVE to parallel park. Then youll remember this thread as you cant see out of your 2.5% tint well enough to not hit the car behind you.

No doubt, it looks cool, but not a good idea long-term.

Guess where I bought my car? Thats right, rural not-even-on-your-GPS Belleville,IL (Near my college of SIUE).

And guess what, I didn't stay there.I then left rural SIU Edwardsville ( please, map it) to live in Chicago, which DEFINITELY wasn't my idea.

All that's to say, your life and where you live can change on the drop of a hat.Unless youre selling the car tomorrow, its safe to say that in the next few years youre gonna be moving someplace that either :

A) Has enough of a police budget to make your life suck W/tint citations
B) requires you to park/drive frequently at night.

BTW, ever done a lane change in congestion at night on the interstate ?With 20% tint its no fun.Id only imagine if it were 2.5%

The cliff notes version:
I don't know where you live, but in Chicago, you'd be taking that off, real f-in quick. For a lot of reasons.Unless you sell your car before you move, that 2.5% ain't gonna last in a majority of urban places.

BTW: Im not knocking the tint itself, its just that you'll probably end up removing it if you move pretty much anywhere .

How much was the damage? Most citiations will have no problem informing you of how much lower your bank account's gonna be.

Sorry to see that option A panned out.

i thought about doing 2.5% but i stuck with 5% and the first time driving with that at night was so funny with my friends because i was in the country( no city lights) and i couldnt see a thing and i can only picture what 2.5 is like. but your car still looks reallly nice with it...good luck with the cops just put your windows down right away when you see them lol

Yeah seems lately tint tickets are just that lately - TICKETS, no fix-its, however, seeing as you took it off try taking it to the city your were cited in and show them you took it off within 24hrs, ask if they would fill out the form saying to removed it. Turn the ticket into a fix-it ticket and when you go to court show them you removed it asap. You might get off with an easier fine. my car was ticketed for tint a couple months ago and it ended up being $60. I paid it and went on my merry way.

Good luck :)

okay, i have a few things after wasting my time with this thread:

1. I don't know how hold you are, but you sound like the typical 17 yr old in my area that complains way too much and tries to back up everything since you know it all (I was once that way, then I went to college and got a rude awakening).

2. I've been warned for my tint, but since I got the legal 50% on the front windows, I got away with 15% on the rear windows and cops have said nothing to me but compliments.

3. 15 is hard enough for me to see out of at school when I have night class and it's mostly parallel parking, the eyebrow on the back doesn't help much either.

Yea but around here its $55 per window no matter what the tint is but sometimes they just give you $55 for whatever like they did for my friend who had it all 20% so the cop just gave him 1 $55 ticket but here if you get them removed then the ticket goes away... hasn't happened to me yet "knocks on wood" with 5% being mostly so hopefully it stays good lol

I guess in the end its just preference on the tint but its true it does take some getting used to!

Also in NY now there trying to pass a law for the inspection on a car, if you have illegal tints then you have to get them removed or else you don't pass inspection unless you "know" someone :) lol

Welcome to everyone's dream. What tint WONT get me busted ;).

Truth is, there is none.If its illegal, it can be prosecuted as such.

Now that said, here's the good news :

You can lessen the odds of getting nailed. For example, check your state laws, and tint accordingly. IL tint law says zero tint on the front two windows, and just about whatever on the rear two and rear window.

So, I tinted 20% in the rear parts, and went with 35% on the front two windows. It has the effect of 'matching' while also having a contrast difference. At a passing glance theres enough difference to look legit.

Not that this will mean jack in terms of whether you'll get stopped a lot or not, but the only ticket ive had is a $25 one I got at 5:30 AM , which is prolly b/c the sunrise gave me away.
In all likelihood a GA with the same tint and color of mine on the other side of Chicago is prolly gettin' slammed with tickets. Its just too unpredictable to say for sure.

Only you know your area and police enforcement well enough to know what will fly, and what won't.
