Hi all, I know I'm very quiet on here but this site is the most useful place and has helped me many times getting my car top notch...I have a question, I recently installed a secret weapon r intake on my v-6 3.4 and everything runs great ...noticeable gain, nice whistling sound of air sucking in... etc... but the check engine light came on after a bit, I asked around and searched up to see if other people had the same problem. Some people said they "made adjustments" to make it go away, alot of other people said "it will come on on but everything is still fine, just make sure all your clamps are tight", so I wanted to get a third opinion from people here. Like I said I'm very happy with it but anytime a light comes on, even "change oil".. I get a little irked.
P.S. - I was also told I need to go to a mechanic to reset my ECU to turn it off...any truth to this?

It's possible you might need a flash, safest thing to do is get it diagnosed. Then you know exactly what is throwing the code. It could be something completely unrelated. Like a wheel speed sensor or something else.
Some things to check, Did you:
-completely disconnect your battery when you installed the intake?
-Take extra care to keep the MAF clean and safe from damage and make sure it was put put back in the correct way?

The battery was completely disconnected, because it would have been a pain in the *ss trying to get the airbox off without taking it out (for me anyways). As for the MAF I tried to be careful with it the connectors no VISIBLE damage, I had to splice the IAT to make it long enough to reach the pre cut hole that was in the aluminum elbow (Weapon R put it in an awkward spot) but after the install no light was on for the first half dozen miles. It didn't come on until I got on the highway and really opened up throttle to test it. After a google search on this some people say it goes off by itself some people say their cars computer never will adjust so it stays on. But like you suggested I will have it properly diagnosed to prevent any major issues down the line.

Agree'd other than if its a wheel speed sensor, the ABS light usually comes on. Take it to advanced auto or a repair shop and get it scanned. Advanced and AZ can tell you the code but I don't think they can tell you what it means. post it up here and I'll try and find it thru Mitchell at work or you can google it. Usually repair shops willl charge you 1/2 hr labor so expect a $35 or so bill if using that route. hope this helps
I had to splice the IAT to make it long enough to reach the pre cut hole that was in the aluminum elbowProbably the IAT causing the light , maybe not connected properly . Other than disconnecting the battery you shouldn't need to do anything else . Get the code read to find what the issue is. To completely remove it will require a scan tool , even if the light goes off the code will remain stored in the computer .... ;)
