mine has 183k miles on it with no problems. So they can last a long time. It all depends on how they are treated.

134K on mine :) It's had some problems but a siezed spark plug, burnt up boots and coil housing are more do to me not changing them than any fault of the engine.

Blew my HO up racing it with 136,000 on it. W41 coming and I hope it will last longer, but I have to admit, once it's thru break-in, I'll be driving it like I stole it every time I get in it. I will be going with synthetic this time around. I maintained it well in the past, but did drive it a tad hard now and then...

My quad 4 SOHC died at 110,000 miles. it was driven by a woman for the first 100,00 miles. a woman who loved this car more than i think her family. the timing chain died around 100K and then she sold it to me 2 years after it was fixed, and it died on me a few weeks ago with 110K. i dont know what was wrong with it, but the guy in the shop said there were chunks of metal in it. so i got the engine replaced and i get it back monday.

Well, I went and talked to the mechanic today about my car. He showed me the problem.....cracked cylinder. So because there is 125,000 on it, he's lookin for a newer or rebuilt engine to drop in. Not exactly what I needed to happen, but I guess you gotta do what ya gotta do. I just hope it doesn't cost too much.

The 95 2.3L Q4 that I just gave my daughter has 177K on it. I just replaced the timing chain components and waterpump. I don't know it's early history, whether it had the blown headgasket problems, etc...but it is a strong, smooth engine now...and it ran well even with the worn chain, bad waterpump, and a serpentine tensioner that was shot. It is a pain to work on certain things though.

i had a 93 HO and i loved it to death. It has 155,000 miles and it chocked on me. Had all timing replaced, and all lifters, but it still knocked. I ended up selling it for 1,400 dollatrs with the bad motor in it. But ill tell you what, i own a civic now, but i would take a QUAD4 HO anyday over a civic. Especially that 91 bodystyle with the sport package, or a 92 GT fully loaded!!

I have 180,000 on my 96 Achieva. Oil & filter every 5K and take it easy until it's fully warmed up.
Here's a interesting article on the 2.3 / 2.4
