I need a new clutch for my 98 2.4L 5 speed. Are they copatible with cavalier / sunfire clutches with the LD9? and are they also compatible with the 2.3 engines from earlier grand ams. I did a search for clutches on ebay, and have seen listings for clutches that match both my engine up with the cavalier, and also with the 2.3. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
also if not ebay, where would be a good place to buy a clutch for mycar. Dont need anything high performance... yet, unless I saw the right price for a stage 2 or better, but i cant spend an arm and a leg right now.

autozone sells Clutch kits for 250ish, at that time you should also get a new flywheel or get your old one resurfaced......buying a new one you can bring an old one in and recieve money back for the core charge....all in all this is a PIA transmission to work on if you don't have the right tools.

Cavalier and Sunfire clutches will work.

2.3 refers to the LD2 Quad 4 engine offered in the 1995 model year J Bodies. Think of it as the precursor to the LD9.

www.RockAuto.com has a good data base. Look up the different cars to see if the clutch part numbers are the same.

Applications that are the same (Isuzu 5-speed, internal slave)
96-98 LD9 N-bodies
95 LD2 N-body
95-99 J-body, (96-99 LD9 or 95 LD2)
Stay away from 2000+ since they use Getrag and different clutch. Same goes for 94 or older 2.3's... those Isuzu's have a different slave cylinder.
The clutch kit should include the clutch, pressure plate, and slave cylinder. I would replace the master cylinder too... in fact many clutch manufacturers will not honor warranty without doing so.
As for recommendations of brand...
I <3 Spec.
I've always heard bad/mixed opinions on Centerforce.
Other random replacement brands / eBay... your risk.
