View Full Version : my interfooler is HUGE
Ever wondered how big of an intercooler you needed to make huge power in Las Vegas?
Well, since I've been workin' on the car a lil bit lately, aka stripping her down to fix her back up, I decided to take a few random pictures for forum amusement.
So the not so smart people won't become confused.
The intercooler is 3inches thick and 8inches tall and well the core isn't too wide looking is it? :-)
It's about good for 300-350hp.

:) Got Intercooler :)
oh that intercooler is for sale, btw.
It's being replaced. I need something a lil more efficient for the power I'm looking for, hell even the power I used to make.

I was going to say 300-350 hp is weak sauce when you were making 400+ before

I know exactly what he's done. 560whp.... well i've done 432whp at 16lbs of boost so I'm pretty confident I can play horsepower tag with him.
The GT30 on my car is about good for 550hp, so I can make it suffer quite a bit in seeing if what's mostly on the car is capable. The things I do have to deal with at the moment is, getting the transmission fixed, getting a more capable intercooler (this one pictured in my first post IS FOR SALE), and wire in the Electromotive TEC 3 I'm going to be running.
Dave = Yes the falkens are on all the way around, they're my street tire. The two stack of slicks are my drag shoes.

Shit, hook that thing up to my hookah and you got a deal
FOR THE RECORD this intercooler core currently suffering on the car is only
3inch thick x 8inch tall x 20inch wide..... TINY!
what I'm looking for is more along the lines of 3.5 to 4inch thick x 8inch x 25inch wide.
I've been considering this.

with those you're gonna have to rework your charge pipes though. Why not keep the inlets and outlets on the sides like they are and just hack off a section of piping from each side to make up for a wider one?

It doesn't matter because I'm reworking the setup to be shorter on plumbing anyway, so there's going to be a lot of hacking of pipes regardless. I'm looking to remove about 2 feet of intercooler piping hopefully 2.5 feet, for a bit more efficient setup.
The intercoolers depicted above are most likely what I am going for, but I will ask the makers to do me a one off version where the inlet and outlet are in a more traditional location.

Right on. I don't see how you're gonna chop 2.5 feet outta there, but I'm sure with enough ingenuity, a saw, and a BFH, it could be done.
What's the reason for the extra header panel in that first pic?
the one on the car is broken, and can't hold the passenger headlight.
On the driver's side I can get rid of about 6 inches of extra plumbing for sure. On the passenger side, where you currently see the plumbing going, well it will not be going that way no more. :) i'm cutting some holes into the engine bay, teehee. and flipping my turbo the other way around. Which flipping the turbo around will take out another 6inches, which now gives me a foot, plus the more direct route I will be taking will at least get me another foot, of deleted plumbing.

I figured the pass. side was gonna get shortened up quite a bit and rerouted, but without seeing your drivers side, i didn't figure there was much slack to take up. I figured it was a pretty straight up shot from the IC to the mani. What's the diameter of your charge piping anyway? All welds except to the IC and turbo or do you have some other couplers in there?

Doesn't look like he'd have to remove them that much if he uses the one in the photo shown. Since they are straight and the intercooler is much wider depending on the width he might be able to eliminate the 90 degree bends and run them straight into the intercooler anyhow.
currently they are 2.25 and 2.5 respectively
it's heeeeeere
