hey guys, i have a 88 grand am SE with a brand new low output quad4 that was just dropped in it...the car has decent performance but the automatic tranny sucks bad, and plus it has 260,000 miles on it, so i was wondering if anyone has any information on the conversion. Stuff like prices, and what all is needed....thanks

Forget about trying to convert your auto to manual. It's not worth the hassle. Trust me I did this on a 1981 Camaro and they were no where close to being this complex. I would check these guys out. http://www.protechtransmissions.com/ From what I read they will rebuild your auto to hold up to 400 lbs. of torque, supply you with a performance converter and also give you posi traction for $4,250. The price is not cheap but neither is rebuilding burnt out tranny's.

yeah, after looking at the part list that takes to convert i don't think im gonna keep this car...im gonna go with a crx or a mitsubishi starion. I just can't stand having my car shift itself, its no fun..and it takes no talent to drive...Thanks for the help anyways guys!! oh yeah, and if anyone wants an 88 grand am SE with a BRAND NEW quad four, send me a pm
