Hi All, I would like to do some performance mods to my Grand Am but I am not sure what the increased HP and torque off the engine will do to my tranny. I have the Hydra-Matic 4T45-E Transaxle (MN5). It's max torque is 215 lbs. My 3.4L V6 puts out 205 lbs. of torque now which does not give me any room to work with. What are some of my options to get this trans to handle the increased power?:???:

it wil make your tranny pack up its gears and leave!!!

They are now using the 4T45 for the V6? I thought that was for the 2.2! Blech. Hand over the tranny to me, and I could fiddle with line pressures and solinoid rates, but not like the good 'ol days where you could build a THM350 to shift so hard you could bend and break stuff...
There is the Autotrans Interceptor, that boosts transmission pressure! :)

Will the AutoTrans Interceptor improve how much torque the tranny can handle or will it just improve the shifting? I also heard of valve body upgrades. What will this do for me. How about a tranny cooler?

a transmission cooler will help the life of the transmission and its fluid by letting it run cooler. by valve body upgrades do you mean a shift kit? anything more than that i wouldn't do. when it comes to transmissions if it ain't broke don't fix it unless you need to fix it to handle more

My dad had a TH375 with a shift kit out of the box, and it would literally give you whiplash when it shifted.
