I cant decide what I want on my 01 Grand am SE with the LD9 Engine.

I have always been the type of guy who needs the best of everything, money is not really a problem right now because I live at home with a full time job... But I just want decide what I want.

I want a car that I can drag race with good results.. and I also want a car that everyone looks at and loves... too many civics and such around and I want a car that really stands out!

If I get a turbo I will run it low PSI at first, and after I am done my engine completely I want a reliable 350 or so horses, and more If I race..

Can I achieve this with the GM S/C or do I just say f it and go turbo???

I would like a unique car also so I don't blend in with all the civics, integras, subies, EVO's (even tho that is my favorite tuner car). If I were to turbo my car that would make me stand out a whole lot more and be something that people will look at instead of passing because you don't see turbo grand am's. The price tag is just what I can't get past, 4k (Milzy's "estimated" price that is if he ever finishes it) is alot of money to put out into a car like ours and to see min. results.

you have to pay if you want to play! I'm running around the 28k into my camaro. when i get it done this summer I'm going to turbo my GA, or do a 3.8 swap and turbo it.

I figure If I really want I can get my car pushing 400 reliable HP by next summer, but dishing out 10 grand on an engine alone gives me goose bumps, I dont know if I want to... and I need tires + rims.. body kit and interior and all that.

No offense but you sound like you have no idea what you're getting yourself into here, honestly you'd be better off selling your car and buying one already fast. Not many people have broke 400hp and the ones that did are probably approaching 10k in mods or more. You need a turbo to reach that goal and engine upgrades.

4k really isnt a lot for a turbo kit thats about what you'll spend on average depending on whats included

some of the guys on here have given me a lot of help with my plans and from where i am know i have only spent about $400 on a shorty starter and a smoked turbo and the cost of rebuilding it total i think i will be looking at maybe 4-5k to finish it off

Thats why I said spending 10 grand on an engine gives me goose bumps.

If I do get 400 reliable HP, I know its going to be AT LEAST 10 grand, then another 5 grand in looks alone.

If I do all of this at least my car will be as fast as my brothers, he bought a 05 civic and hes dropping a K20 engine in with boost.

Getting 400 HP from the engine is one thing . But don't forget about the drive line , the stock stuff isn't gonna cut it . How do you plan on hooking up that power to the ground ... :???: Stock brakes aren't gonna be of much use either .

If you want cheap boost - buy the GM s/c kit that is less than 2k and is designed for your car.

- get some HPtuners
- alky injection
- smaller pully
- headers
- port and polish manifolds
- CAI
- exhaust

You will get nice numbers for a fair price.

What kind of numbers with all of that?

5 Speed swap from auto with a good tranny, disks on the back and all new drive line.

Why drop 15k into a grand am go out and find a used f-body or GTO

i want to go turbo and i'm still getting the parts needed. but turbo boost needs to be higher in the rpms. and with an automatic it won't go nearly as high as a 5spd would. since mine is an auto, and i'm having trouble finding a 5spd donor car, i might change my plans to a s/c. instant boost! and with how many miles my motor has on it i would rather keep the boost low in rpms and not worry about boost in high rpm in a high milage motor. but i'm staying on the boost path none the less.

I think you'd be better off just buying a Mustang/Camaro/Trans Am...............

Spy has 400whp w/ a turbo, didn't cost him 10 grand... do some searches for his threads and posts as he has posted his build several times in the last couple of months

I thought it was closer to 6ish

Either way... don't be a pussy... either put the money down to make the power, or go get groceries like the rest of them

Why would I want another car?

People always under-estimate grand am's, I am trying to proove a point.. and I want to stand out
