What a day. Driving home from work yesterday going down I94 in Indiana. Was in the left lane going 60-65mph with the flow of traffic when I heard a loud pop. I knew it was a truck tire but wasn't sure where it came from. Noticed the truck next to me start to slow down so I looked over to check out his wheels to see which tire blew. When I realized it wasn't his, I turned back to look forward and everyone in front of me was coming to a very hard stop. The truck that blew the tire was ahead of us in the middle lane. I hit the brakes but realizing there was no way I was going to be able to stop in time to not rear end the Tahoe/Suburban in front of me I whipped the wheel to the right and once the car started to loose control, I whipped it back to the left to try to straighten it out. Apparently when I whipped the wheel left I was already on the shoulder of the highway having crossed 2 other lanes of traffic, so the car started to slide sideways off the highway, into a ditch and continue until it rolled over coming to a rest belly up. After shaking off the initial shock, I grabbed my cell phone and hit the power window button to open the drivers side window and crawled out uninjured except for a sore neck from landing on the back of my neck when I hit the roof of the car in the roll over. Went to the hospital just to make sure all was OK. Just a tad sore. The car held up really well. The guy at the body shop said it is 50/50 that the car will be totaled. My guess is that it will be totaled as just about every panel on the car need some type of work. He said it would definitely need a complete paint job if State Farm decides to fix it. Personally, I don't want it back. Gonna need way to much work to get it back to driveable. Main reason I wanted to post was to let you guy's know that the car did very well in the rollover. The roof was damaged but never collapsed. The sunroof glass never even broke and would still open and close but wouldn't slide from the roof damage. Like I said, the drivers window was still functional after the rollover. I was pretty impressed. Someone was definitely looking out for me yesterday as everyone who pulled over to help couldn't believe I crawled out of the car uninjured. My hat's off to Pontiac for the way the car held up. Looks like I may be shopping for a new car this week. Maybe I should change my username to "crash test dummy". LOL :angel1:

Wow, good thing you weren't injured. Too bad for you GA but at least nobody was hurt, that's the important thing. Hopefuly it'll all work out for you with the insurance.

Just a quick question here. You say your head hit the roof when it rolled, were you wearing your seat belt? I'm not looking to give you shit or anything (who would I be to do that?) but I'd like to know whether they do their job right or not...

To be honest with you, no I wasn't wearing it at the time. Nice thing about the GA is the way you settle in the car and it really seems to surround you. I never got thrown around the inside of the car. I was pretty much stuck in the seat the whole time except for when it came to rest. That is when I dropped from the seat to the roof. Main thing I was trying to avoid was getting anyone else involved and I was successful in that seeing as how I crossed 3 lanes of traffic before leaving the highway. I chose the path of least resistance and all seems to have worked out. Thing that really sucks is I just put new Monroe sensatrac struts all the way around ($500) and just spent $500 on the 100,000 mile service. Oh well. I am very thankful for the way things turned out. Definitely got a very large dose of reality check.:)

Definitely what I would call extreme sporting. Jumping from an airplane isn't shit compared to flipage. LOL Adrenaline rush to the max. Not something I want to try again though. :D Kind of an elite club we belong to. Saw the pictures of your accident and it gave me the chills as that is close to what mine looked like. The wife forgot the digital camera in all the commotion so no pics of the car upside down in the ditch but I will have pics of the car soon. Once SF declares it dead, I am going back for my Pioneer receiver and speakers.

It seemed everyone that I knew happened to drive by the accident scene..just so happens one of my dads friends drove my and had a camera...took an entire roll..just so I can look back and get depressed everytime I happen across them.

I ripped my subs, amp, and deck out of the car before it went on the roll back...

I had just gotten my car out of the shop. It was runnin like shit for a couple weeks before and finally decided to get it fixed....just picked it up the day before and had 2 new tires put on up front. Now I wont change my tires...I just trade the car in when the tires get bad ;)

No air bags came out on mine but the car did die. Power was still on but the engine stopped running. Plenty of smoke. Maybe just from dripping fluids.

Yeah, the airbag sensor is supposed to automatically shut off when the car is flipped. That way they don't go off when you're inverted, possibly doing more damage than harm. And really people, when you're flipping, I think head-on impact is the least of your worries! :)

Sucks for the car though. Good to see you're OK though.

Yeah, on my car, I only have a driver side airbag (only 1 in the wheel) and on the flip side of the visor it says it only goes off in front impact, not designed to go off in roll over, side or back impact, beucase it woudln't be of any help. By the engine next to the emisions control diagram, there is a airbag diagram, and shows where all the sensros are etc... you can also see them, one is right in the front, other is near the fire wall.

my car is a '93 though, the new Caddys have driver and passenger air bag, side and head airbags for the people in front AND in the back, alond with some others....

Replaced the GAGT with a 2003 Monte Carlo SS. Had to change the wheels and tire combo as I couldn't stand the factory crap. Car had 2700 miles on it(GM exec. car) and chevy gave me a great deal on it not to mention that State Farm did total my GA but the money they gave me was fantastic. I was expecting about half of what the offered. Guess everything worked out alright afterall. Now I have to find a forum like this one that caters to the Monte SS. Anyone know of one where I might be able to pick up some great tips like this forum does for the GA? :???:
