Hi guys, new to this forum, but used other forums. Anyways have a 93 and a 96, currently working on the 96. Right now removed the head and found a bad piston. I also have a manual trans. My question - is there enough room to pull engine out from the top if I remove the timing chain guard ? It appears that will leave about 1.5 to 2 inches to disengage it from the clutch/trans. Will this work ? I do realize the book says drop it from the bottom, but wonder if the top is a realistic option ? Thanks.

Also, besides a chip out of # 2 piston, noticed # 4 truly is at TDC, but # 1 is maybe 1/4 inch below (before or after ?) TDC. Is this Ok, was the crank timed to have them off a little, or should they be in identical positions ?

there is enough room but do yourself a favor it is a lot easier to just raise the car up and drop the subframe
