I've thought about this swap for quite sometime and I would LOVE to do it. I'd put money on it that an 85-91 Grand Am (much smaller than the newer body Styles) would be an animal with the 3.8 S/C under the hood.
I was told that the 3.8 is pretty much the same block as the 3.0(which came stock in the old school Grand Am's) so If I had to guess, the motor mounts are probably the same, if not very similar, and as far as size, i'd say that the 2 engines are very close, but of course with the addition of the S/C, it would take up a little more space.

Did the 3.8 come in an 85-91 Grand Am???? To my knoledge NO! The whole job would be involving a good amount of work, so what would a little more work be? :P :D
Come to think of it, does GM even have a fwd v6 that came with a manual trans.? Even with it mated to an auto, it would still be pretty impressive....I'd think.

To simply answer ALL the questions above.
YES> Anything is possible with money, tools and knowledge.
Now, can you yank one motor and swap in the other and everything bolt right up? No.

funny gm does not have a 5-speed v6 car. The last cars that had a 5-speed v6 was the Caviler and Beretta. I belive

Most GM bolt patterns for the transmission/motor are the same as far as the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinders go.

Well the good thing about using an engine that is made by same the manufactuer(GM) it can be swapped with another engine from the same.Yes there will be some work involved, always will be when it comes to changing something about the car. ButId have to say it would be easier then trying to drop an engine from an entire different company, other then GM that is. Id stick with GM because they have produced some nice engines, they are the company that have produced some of the classic muscle car engines. Id love to see the SC'd 3800 in any GA.That would be fast, since the GA is a little lighter then the GP it should easily do better then the GP in the 1/4 and top speed prolly, but they might get up to top speed at the same time since weight has nothing to do with speed once the car is moving.

There is a few kits out there for this, i no of three manual trans that you can hook up to the 3.8 with these kits the fiero guys do it all the time that is the most popular swap for em series 2 s/c motor with 4spd or 5spd man trans.
Honestly there is a few motors you could drop into the GA with some work of course but pretty much the same amount of work to ditch the 2.4 for a 3.4 which has been done to many times.
you can drop in a N*,4.9,3.8 and a few more im sure. There is some great kits out there for this.
