has anyone ever put a 2002 2.2L quad 4 in a 1995 grand am?
can it be done?
...okay stupid question.
better question: what modification would need to be done? how extensive is the work?
i'm assuming it's not going to be a "drop it in and go" type thing.
thanks bunches! :)
EDIT: (i wish dad would talk to me more clearly) it's a 2.4 not a 2.2. and it's a quad4 dohc.

The 2.2l used in the 5th generation cars was an Ecotec... yes it can be done. No it will not be easy.
The 2.4l used in the 5th generation cars was a variation of the same Quad you already have.

i should also specify that the '02 is out of a cavalier, not a grand am. :)

I don't think it would be all that hard. It would fit but mounts would have to be made. You would have to see if the new engine bolts up to the tranny.

depends if your 95 is OBD I or OBD II look for the cam position sensor to be sure

aHAH! yes that is what my dad mentioned but i could not remember it for the life of me.
he said that was his only main concern. he said the new engine is OBD II and mine is OBD 1.5?

It would be easier to use after market fuel and transmission controllers, than to try to use the stock ecu and wire harnesses.

Could be done... yes. Worth the effort? No.
I would obtain another 95 2.3 if you need a replacement engine. You're opening a can of worms trying to make the 2.4 run in there. Even if you still want to try it, be aware that literally everything is incompatible between the 2 engines... manifolds, AC compressor, alternator, etc. You would need access to the donor car.
It would be easier to use after market fuel and transmission controllers, than to try to use the stock ecu and wire harnesses.
And then have to deal with bugs and quirks making the car too unreliable for daily driving.
