Ive heard alot of places that once my twin cam hits 130000 i should start to worry...im rly trying to take care of this car but if a big problem came up i couldnt keep it and ive only had it 5000 miles and ive done all reg. maintence to catch up but idk how the past guy did....the CE light doesnt light up when key is "ON" neither does check oil light i fear the guy before me tampered with it....also theres a head bolt where the threads are stripped can i get a helicoil in there without tearing it apart?(the bolt thread is fine...its the worse of the two) other than those two problems the engine seems to run perfect....i just wanna know how long these motors typically go for..im trying to learn as much as i can

As long as you are not beating the hell out of it and making sure it is well maintained and cooling properly it should easily last into 200K+. Just make sure you don't o'heat it or abuse it since you could throw a rod bearing.

I just rolled over 140000. I guess we will learn this together. I am actually very happy with the life I have gotten out of it. Now I just beat on it and it keeps coming back for more.

I understand that the threads go a little deeper than the stud. You can get a piece of all thread, screw that in until it bottoms out, cut to length and secure with a nut. Helicoil is your other option,

I would try to see if he cut the wires for the idiot lights. Otherwise swap in a good cluster, maybe source at JY.

hey man I have a '97 GASE 2.4 liter. It has over 130000 miles(almost 140000) and it still runs fine. You might need to get it repaired every so often though nothing real big. As of the light problem it might just be that the light bulbs burnt out or somthing so that shouldnt be that hard to fix. Just dont push the car too hard and you should be fine.

The engine seems to run as smooth as ever and can still get mid 30's mpg...but my syncrhos for reverse are going bad and that stripped thread i have to take the camshaft carrier off to be able to helicoil it dont i? which would involve taking the timing chain apatrt wouldnt it?

My 2.4 is also pushing 140K miles.it runs like new and it still pulls 32Mpg on average, unless i push it really hard then it will get about 27. Yes it should last a long time, they are very strong motors

the motor is smooth but all the subsystems are failing and i have to baby it to reach 27mpg(latest mileage 19.5mpg and never went over 2500rpm the conditions arent perfect but i use to get 24 under the same) and the obd2 says no code or anything is wrong...i can smell gas heavly at start up...oils leaking everywhere(water pump and cam gaskets):(
