The cat back will fit any 99+ Grand Am. It bolts onto the flange after the cat. I have one on my '02 ecotec.

shipping is going to suck.. because of that middle tube,, i wouldnt know how to wrap it. any ideas?
and its in queens NY
jurgs2007
07-01-2008, 03:25 PM
well, could it be cut in half or in 3 peices?? i could weld or clamp a coupling onto it when i install it.. that would make the package smaller.

but hey, if someone is able to pick it up locally, let them have first dibs, because it will be less hastle to have it picked up.

Hey Nick. In the last picture, on the bottom pipe is a hanger. You can cut a little off that hanger to make it easier to install. It goes over the axle.
g4mbl3
07-08-2008, 12:21 PM
alright, thx Jim! ill have probably dave and nate help me put it on if they wanna help, but ill def see about the hanger. thx again, im pretty stoked :)
Shad0wguy
07-08-2008, 12:59 PM
Trust me, that hanger will be your worst nightmare. Took me an hour to get the pipe over the axle and turned to its proper position. I dont think it would be wise to cut it off entirely though.

Whoa! Nobody said to cut it off. I said to cut a little off the end.
I had a hard time with mine too. It cracked the pipe at the weld. I heard from another installer that trimming the end made it a lot easier to snake it over the axle.

While you are waiting for the mail, have the three bolts cut off the flange and replace them with new hardware. That was one of the hard parts of my installation. I reemed the bolt holes out and used 3/8 inch stainless bolts.

We can install this in my awsomely cool hugely slanted driveway. To bad you won't have it before I quit firestone, I'd rather do it on a lift. Or maybe......My uncles in Edinboro will let me use a lift. I'll get back to you on that

x2!!!
Took me an hour to do that alone. Had to use a die-grinder to cut the heads of the bolts and drill the rest out. What a hassle.

last month i was at GFS (a bulk food supplier)
and was walking past the frozen desserts section
looking at what they had and it seemed to be the usual. Drumsticks, icecream sandwiches, etc. but low and behold at the end of the isle there were chocolate oreo cheesecakes
so i bought 2
and oh boy, for a premade boxed cake, its #1 on my list

ok, as for these bolts, will it be something i can do myself, or will i need em torched out? ill see what my neighbors can do, but i called a local shop and they said they dont have any openings for at least 1 1/2 weeks :(. jw why i have to replace these, how hard it is, and anything else. thx. hopefully if i can get these myself or with my neighbors welder gun then i will be able to have dave help me sunday install it if he isnt busy :(

You replace them because they're rusted and at least one will probably shear.

At least one. Probably all of them will break off. That is if you don't round them off in the process.

I did mine. I was a PITA holding a saws-all and pushing up until the blade cut through the bolt head. IIRC I bent a couple of six inch blades during the process.

My favorite kind of cake is the ones where an attractive woman pops out.
lol if my gf knew I said that I'd get slapped. But I like angel food cake, aka 'pick-n-bite' since it sits on the counter and each time I go past it I pick some off and eat it. By the end of the day it's half gone.
