Hello,
In the recent weeks there have been many times when I am stopped at a stop sign or red light and my car starts vibrating and shaking. Then it stalls out and the battery and low oil presure light comes on. Once I put it in park and turn it off, it starts right back up.
Anyone have an idea what the problem could be??
Thanks,
David

Well first, there is not a such thing as a V4, so do you have the 2.4 I4 or the 3400 V6? Is it hard to start the car?

'99 4-cyl, auto tranny; 9-yrs old, about 108k miles?
The vehicle was due for major service inlcuding spark plugs and boots, various checks and fluid/filter replacements.
Was this done?

Does this happen:
* In the morning, say during the first 5 minutes of driving, when the engine hasn't 'warmed-up' yet?
* When at the engine has warmed, and you're generally driving around?
* Both of the above?
We assume the SES light isn't 'on', or you would have said so, right?
When the engine is idling, your foot is off the pedal and the air for engine combustion is controlled by the Idle Air Control (IAC) motor.
The PCM (engine computer) is reading the engine rpm, and trying like HELL to make the damned IAC open enough to raise the rpm and prevent stalling.
Something seems ary in your IAC, or the computer's operation of the fuel injection (the IAC might be opening it's valve just fine, but the fuel injection might be faulty and not injecting enough fuel).
I would check the air filter for dirtiness, and the intake tube for obstruction like a sandwich wrapper under the driverside fender in front of the tire.
The catalytic converter might also be partially-clogged, causing backpressure that the engine's idle isn't strong enough to overcome.

rick,
thanks for all the help.
I would say this mostly happens when the engine has warmed. I can almost feel it before it happens because even when I am driving, it feel like i am losing power, and the car starts vibrating some
Again, thanks for your help

Mine did that right before the fuel pump died on me. Not cheap by any means.... Not saying its the issue, but was in my case. May want to try cleaning out the IAC. Take the plastic cover off your throttle body, in there you'll see the throttle plate and a little passage above it. Spray some carb cleaner or seafoam in there, use a paper towel to clean the throttle plate (should look bronze).
