View Full Version : Removing Overspray and wax

I painted my calipers the other day and didn't realize I got overspray on the entire car until I washed it yesterday. On top of that I was parked under a pine tree Sun nite so I had sap all over it too! It felt like sandpaper!!! I have a friend who owns a custom paint shop so I called him and he said to use lacquer thinner on it, then hit it with a couple of coats of Liquid Glass using soft terry cloth towels.
Now I'm a firm believer in Zanio and Zymol, but I have to tell you, I just finished the hood and I never got the depth out Zymol that I got out of this. I would have to say that it shines just like Zanio, only with less work. I don't know how long it hold up compared to Zanio, but he says every car that leaves his shop for show detailing has Liquid Glass on them and he has a wall full of show winners.
Guess you can teach an old dog new tricks!!! I used Liguid Glass years ago.....don't know why I forgot all about it. Guess since the "big 5-0" is coming up on me I'm getting senile!!!!!

... I used to use Liquid Glass at one time too (not on the Grand AM but on previous vehicles) and I was happy with it as well, but now that I have used Zaino, I find there is really no comparison on how easy the Zaino is to use ... to be honest though, the Zaino shine is not really much different in my eyes to other waxes/polishes that I have used; however, it is BY FAR the easiest to apply and remove :)

You should try NU Finish Kelly, it's even easier than Zaino to apply and does a VERY good job. It also lasts forever...

Well, I'll probably switch back and forth between Zaino and Liquid Glass since they are very similar in application. I do know that the Zaino lasts a long time.....not sure about Liquid Glass. My garage looks like the Car Care section of Autozone  I must have every cleaning product known to modern man!!!

I know what you mean; although for the most part now, I have sort of 'standardized' on many things ... Shawn on the other hand could probably give AutoZone a definate run for their money :rofl2: In regards to NuFinish, I have tried this product before and to be honest, I didn't care for it since the shime wasn't anything to be impressed over (atleast for me anyway) and its application was similar to most other waxes were you have to rub it on, wait for it to dry then remove it and I ended up with lots of white residue dust :(
I would love to find something simple to put on my car, and my wife's Alero. I just did her car last week, and the Turtle Wax I used didn't buff up with the polisher very well. It left kind of an oily residue that would only come off with hand buffing. I changed the buffer pads on the polisher several times and it didn't make a difference. Never ran into this kind of thing before.
But I'm looking to try new things. Time to hit C-tire and look at their wares for polishing & shining. Maybe it's time to try Zaino or Liquid Glass.
As for the comments about all the all the cleaning products for cars, well, this is what I have to say about that: :randy:
Most of those products are simply re-packaged household cleaners, put in automotive labled containers with jacked up pricing. :money:
For instance. I was buying Eagle 1 wheel cleaner. Guess what? Simple Green works every bit as well for me, and is a lot cheaper. Now my garage has more room for things like my golf gear, ball equipment and fishing tackle (though most of that is actually in the house, I baby my fishing tackle).
