View Full Version : Cleaning the inside window?

I know I saw a discussion on cleaning glass before, but I was wondering if anyone used anything special for the inside windows? I usually use ammonia and water, but I used vinegar and water this last time and it left streaks and a fogginess that you can only see when the sun shines on it (basically blinding you).

I use the Windex wipes. On my Camaro it's the only thing I've found that works well with the long raked windshield.

:P I know I hate cleaning the inside windows...Just can't get rid of the smears. I just detailed my car (even though it is going to rain tomorrow). The only thing I did not do is the windows.

I usually use the Armor All glass cleaner. I really like it, no ammonia (won't harm tint) and doesn't leave any streaks.

i'm just the opposite. i despise the armor all wipes because they do leave streaks. either i didn't use them right or you rub on it more than i did. but i don't like the protectant wipes either( but i don't really care for armor all). but whatever works for you

Oh no, it's not the wipes I use, it's the spray bottle stuff, just like Windex but it's a clear liquid.
I would never use anything else that has the Armor All name on it, I hate all of their other products. I was actually surprised (and puzzled) at how well the glass cleaner worked but hey, it worked :)

You mean like using newspaper in place of paper towels or rags?? Wouldn't that leave behind a bunch of ink and stuff?

This is a trick I learned from my mother and it does work great.
I reccomend the Plain Dealer or the Sun Post, but if you live somewhere else you might have to substitute! :D

My personal choice of paper is the Indianapolis Star, some what conservative with a hint of liberalism. My favorite section is the sports section, but the Home & Garden section leaves my windows streak free.:bootyshak
For those in rual areas, pick up a copy of USA Today. It will do in a pinch.:cow:
Good luck!

MICROFIBER TOWELS
You can get a pack of em online or places like walmart/costco. They're THE BEST when wiping down glass, especially the interior glass that has that nasty body oil/other crap haze left behind.
If you want an excellent window cleaner, go to Autozone or maybe even Pepboys and pick up an aerosal can of "Stoners Invisible Glass"

I second that Stoners Invisible Glass.......it really does make the glass look invisible.

there's a third on the Stoner's...
but, for all of you that are getting into problems with streaks I have a hint for you:
Clean your windows in a garage or in the morning. The liquid you're using is cooking on the glass and all you're doing is smearing around the residue. Keep the glass cool and you'll find that it'll get clean faster. I have to thank Martha Stewart for that tip, and the stock Ideas.
BTW don't use windex because the glass/plastic windows have an oil in them to prevent de-lamination.

I use Windex and the Boston Globe to keep my widows sparkling!

Ammonia only affects aftermarket tint. Factory tint is actually in the glass whereas aftermarket tint is a film.

actually ammonia only affects dyed aftermarket tints. i can windex on my windows all day long and it won't hurt them
