Hi all,

I was hit and run last night at work. some guy in a mini van backed ito my GA then took off. luckly a local cabbie got his plate number and discription so the local PD were going after him last night. I took the car to the dealer this morning and got an estimate, $1025.03 to replace the rear bumber cover and molding plus paint. I'm attaching a picture of the damage.

What really pisses me off about this it that this is the 3rd time someone has hit and run me since I've been in Alaska. I don't want the guy who did it to be charged with hit and run but he sure is gonna pay to get my car fixed.

i don't understand why people run, their gonna be caught if you get the tag number and then they'll be charged more for running.

You better move out of alaska, i hear they have some crazy drivers up there.

Sorry to hear about it. at least it's not too bad.

lol belive me I've been thinking about it. If I don't get a better job soon have fingers crossed for a Electronics job with the FAA, I'm out of here next summer. I talked to my insurance agent and if the PD can't get the guy its gonna cost me a deductable of 250.00 to get it fixed under my uninsured motorist coverage. I'm still waiting to hear from the local PD and I filled out the form they gave me to mail in, so now its just a waiting game.

To save on that $250 you may be able to talk to the bodyshop. If you have any mechanical skill or inclination you can remove and install the bumper and that alone would probably get rid of most if not all of your deductible. Shops make alot on those few bolts and clips.

I got my new front bumper from them. It was an OEM one painted and shipped for around $550 total. The bumper came out perfect and I saved hundreds of dollars. I replaced it all by myself. It isn't hard.

Depending on how much you have to pay, this could be an option. Good luck.

thanks for the info. I just found out that the state of alaska is going to garnish the amount to fix my car includeing my deductiable from the guys PFD permenant fund divedend so there is no worry. I quess thats a good way to take care of people hit and running or not haveing insurance.

dude id be freaking out if it was the 3rd time since u moved up there. lol be parking away from everyone and hiring a security guard to stand by it with a crowbar.

but no seriously, if the dude that hits your car gets caught, dont say you dont wanna press charges, go AS FAR AS YOU CAN. if you only make him pay and not give him the crime for it, he wont learn anything. and everyone else will be like sweet i can get away with it. so go all the way dude. im being cereal right now

i think my car was in a similar situation when my mom owned it, has a pushed in spot with all the paint chipped up from there.

Good luck with getting it fixed
