I did a search on this, but only found 1 thread, and it only had 1 response by someone who had been banned, so not much help.
Anyhow, the vynal on my dashboard is just beginning to come loose, or peel back down where the dash meets the windshield.
Does anyone know what to use to reseal it, and also the best way to apply it since it's in a place with very limited room to be able to apply anything.
Also is there a way to make it more plyable in order to get it to lay down when trying to use whatever adheisive on it?
All help greatly appreciated, Thank you

I second that. I'd just remove the entire dash, should take a couple hours. then maybe use something like gorilla glue to put the vinyl back down. That should hold as well as anything and ought to dry pretty quickly. Then you can put the dash back in.

you make it sound so easy. but its really not.

its not so bad once youve found all the bolts and clips :( and after taking out a dash once or twice it is pretty easy. I agree first time through its not obvious as to how it comes apart.

like with everything else when working on cars.

Removing the dash is easy shouldn't take more than an hour the first time, the hardest part is you need to remove the steering wheel with a puller. Other than that there's a bunch of bolts holding it on

If I was going to remove the dash, I'd replace it before trying to reglue. Take lots of digital pictures along the way so you have something to refer to when reinstalling.

that topic has been talked about alot on the other ga site. the only anwser found was to replace the dash. i believe i ready that the factory unliminated the problem with 2002 up .
mine is doing it for a few years how long exactly ?? ,over time it got a bit worse but still not too too bad. others would have to know about the problem to pick it out or a very detailed person.
my lifts on at the bottom of the windshield the cooler it is and then goes down some the warmer it is. this seems to be different then most. they say there's lifts because of heat. it moves up and down about 3/8 of an inch .
mine is so far staying just at or below that solid blk tint at bottom of window a few inches on drivers and passenger side. but once it comes above that area then you will see if from the outside .
mine could be worse but since 2003 i only put about 3000 klms give or take a bit each year and it's winter stored. it does suck big time and i am fussy so i look at it each day to see if it's getting worse.
also in 2006 my dash was out for major ac work. i breifly look and seen that on the dash. but thought it would be pressed down when dash was re-installed, and i did not know this was a problem either.with dash out it did not look as bad as it does in the car.
kind of wounder if we found a long strip of apealing looking rubber or smooth finished foam and stuck it to the bottom of the windshield to press down on the back edge of the dash if that would keep it from lift and cover it up.
it would have to be stiff enough to be able to press the dash materail down but soft enough not to make loud noise with movement. i have did a bit of looking in hardware stores. you would want the strip to have arounded edge smooth look . not flat square like a roll of foam strip. maybe some type of car molding would work but there rather larger in diameter.

Thats horrible a dash barely 6 years old is peeling up personally I would complain to GM about that b/c thats not normal I've seen much older GMs and the dash is still mint.

My 2002 dash has done the same thing on the drivers side and has caused the vent to crack and brake off in sections. I was shocked to find out it was 1 of the only things not covered by our warranty with Pontiac. Well,I guess the shock actually came from the quote we were given...$1000 with parts & labor. As you can imagine,it is still curled up as we could not afford that and were quite P.O.ed that it happened on our 2002 car anyway. I am new here so it may have been posted elsewhere but has anyone thought of cutting away a few inches started at the windshield line and then putting either a carpeted dash cover or woodgrain, etc? We aren't pros so not going to attempt it but wondered if we took it to a professional how well this would work. Anyone tried this?

too bad we could not do as they did with the coolant / gasket topic claims. wounder how many of us have the problem.
putting carpet etc on the dash is tacky. i want what the dash is supose to look like from new.
you said you gm ?? warranty did not cover it ???. is that the first part of new car warranty or extended. i know extended would not cover it. that barely covers anything now days.
they should atleast give us better pricing. then that way they will sell what they have in stock of dashes.
i bet there is not even a TSB on this problem. WHY ??
i do not know alot about every car made in the last 10 years or so. but i can not say i have heard of any other car's dash lifting etc ??? man they used to have this problem in the 70' / 80's maybe older, didn't they

My '99's dash was totally replaced in 2006 because of warpage. It's not slightly warped again, right around the defroster vent. Yep. Only three-years-old and it's doing it again. And I keep a sunshade up almost religiously if the car is outside.

can someone setup a pole ??? atleast if nothing esle we know how many have the problem whether lightly or badly....when they make a new model of car , when do you figure they make the extra parts like the dash in the first year of that model , or threw out the years of that model .
if your 99 had a NEW dash in 2006. and the problem is with the new one too. i would guess they made all there spare dashes back in say like 1999. thus gm likely never came across or found the problem. thus all or any new dashes bought will likely have the same problem. just that a new dash may not or could end up with a worse problem.
i would just had hoped with extra dashes being made to buy were made in later years of our model that the product may have been inproved ???....
the again i can't say i have heard of dashes made for 2003 up have had the problem. infact this is the first i hear of it on a 2002.
every once in awhile ,anytime i see our cars being sold on ebay i see if the pictures show how many , how bad and what years are effected . mostly 1999,2000,2001.

There's a '99 GT coupe on eBay with only 58k original miles. But it's from Florida and the dash is the worst I've seen.
