View Full Version : Will This Be Fine?

I'm about to throw the basecoat on my mirrors in the next few days, but in some spots it was wetsanded past the normal primer. I used clear plastic primer first so that everything would stick, then some SEM flexible primer to fill in rock spots and to remove dips caused by deridging the mirrors. Will the basecoat still stick to the black spots? I'm not sure if it's raw or still has the clear primer on it.

I don't have any of the SEM primer left and it's $13 a can, so I didn't want to get more if I don't have to, especially since I'm wetsanding between coats.

It should be OK. I just rubbed mine down with alcohol, no primer.

I thought so, just wanted a second or third opinion. I did the primer because I'm a perfectionist, and I removed the molding ridges while I was at it.

Hmm, looks like I get to buy another can of paint, I may use the entire small can I had for the mirrors to set my spray gun, it was set up for primer so the spray keeps splitting. I'll have to try it with 50% reducing too, I already set the spray width so it's smaller like the troubleshooting guide said.

Sharpe Model 75 (really old school, my newer gun is missing a piece) siphon feed. The problem was the regulator on the gun, it's messed up so it's not reading right. I thought it was a good pressure but it was barely lettin anything thru. I opened that up and I'm using the regulator a little farther up the line. I'm using Nason (made by Dupont).

Little color sanding and it'll be time for clear.

Done, did quite a few layers, 4 color and 4 clear, but I wanted it smooth and to have plenty of coverage for rock chips. One run into the valley between the posts, I'd say not bad considering I've never sprayed clear before. I'll wetsand it with 1500 once it dries, don't need it to rub around or anything.

Car's getting parked for at least a month after Friday because I'm leaving for school, the mirrors will be on for pictures only. If it comes off I can try doing a better job.

I like the results for a first time spray gun user and a 30 year old siphon feed.

Sorry for the crappy pictures, it was getting dark by the time I got a chance to get the camera out there. I'm saving the wetsanding for another time, I move on Saturday.
